Many moons ago i was a qualified nurse - then had children stayed home looked after them. When my daughter was 5 and started school i went to Uni and got a degree in Science then my PGCE and became a Secondary school teacher in Science. Also taught Child Development and Health and Social Care (with Textiles to the younger kids). On Nov 6th 2007 due to a VERY long story i took early retirement due to ill health and now i make bespoked cards to suit the occasion and the person they are for xx

I have just graduated with a degree in New Media and Communications and going on to do a masters in Advertising and Design :)

I'm the Office Manager in a very busy Radiology Department. Currently on leave for a week but will be glad to be back at work next week (think I'm a workaholic)

I am a teaching assistant and have been for the last 10 years. Before I had the children I was a receptionist but trained at college to be a nanny.

I'm a Black (and White) Cab driver in Leeds

I work in Exports now but worked 11 years in banking previously.

I've done so much over the years. Started off as a wages clerk for a well known garage, worked as a tour rep, then had a band and toured worldwide for a while (did quite well at that), then trained as a dance instructor until I qualified to judging level with dancelines UK (they are the people that own the rights to come dancing). Also ran an entertainments/Event Promotion company, managed a few artists, reported for several music magazines and had a recording studio at the same time.

Currently I run and manage a few websites and am still dabbling in the entertainments business a little managing part time a young all male band.

I have been an holistic/beauty therapist for the last 9/10 years. Before that I worked in the finance sector mainly in the city. Love my job now and have a home salon.

also im trying to find time on an evening to complete the essential nails course i have bought to train up on acrylic nails

What a lovely diverse lot you all are!My last job was as a support worker at a resource centre for adults and young people with disabilities. We did computers, crafts, education, life skills and had fab outings.Miss it very much, loved the people I worked with, they made each day a priviledge to know them. One resident had lived at the home for 65 years since she was 12 and her mother couldnt cope with her epilepsey. She used to cry if we changed her bath night...Thank god things have changed.I fostered children/young people with disabilities before that and we are now doing it again. We have 3 sons 33,32,30.! grandaughter 10,and another coming any day now.Thats my eldest and youngest in my pic.

I was a nurse specialising in ITU CCu and Paediatric high dependancy.
though worked in all areas over the years.
Last ten years was nurse manager in private care and BUPA starting with palliative care and specialising in Alzheimers and Dementia.
Ran all the units.
Had to give up work 3 years ago as my arthritis was so bad.
Had knee op to see if that would help my limping but it wasnt successful and now I need a stick.
Fostered for 20 years and ran courses with head of Fostering and Adoption in St Albans for social workers and foster parents, as well as home managers.
Also lectured in some colleges on care of under fives and coping with difficult teenagers. It was them I worked with for ten years, taking children/teenagers, who were considered unplaceable due to being so socially damaged. Stopped fostering ten years ago.
Miss my work and fostering, but not nimble enough for either.
Now I potter in my garden, and around the house and do crafting and see alot of my family. My grandchildren stay often. My daughter is 39 and my son is 37 they are both doing well.
I consider myself blessed.

Jay xx

Im a therapist and a 'mature' uni student will be in 3rd year of criminology degree on return :D

When i left school (many moons ago) i worked in retail (don't that make a supermarket sound posh?) and also part time in a fish n chip shop (absolute heaven for a weight watcher like myself). I continued to work in the chippie whilst having my 3 children 22, 12 & 10. Went back to college when my youngest was just 2 and learned all of my secretarial skills. Since then i've had a couple of jobs one in Intermediate Care and one Community Physio in a secretarial role. Having just had just over 12 months at home with the kids i'm due to start my new job on Monday in the Critical Care Unit of my local hospital. Can't wait am sure it will be interesting and much as i love my girls it will be good to be back with real people!

Not sure how OH will cope though, his daughter is here for a week too, so he has two x 10yr olds and one x 12 year old to cope with..... He'll look even more haggard when i get home lol lol xx

This is a really interesting thread. I was a teacher, mainly Secondary school kids. I specialised in working with children with severe behaviour problems and teaching other teachers how to work with kids with major behavioural issues. My last job was an LEA advisor, this meant working with Infants and Juniors as well as Secondary school kids. It was brilliant. I loved that job. Sadly however, my Bipolar Disorder became completely out of control, I had to be hospitalised for AGES and then was retired medically.

Now I live in a lovely cluttered house with my husband. My son is 21. I read an awful lot, I go for walks with my dogs, I go to exercise classes, go out to gigs, go to the theatre etc. I can only do those when not in accute phase, but I do get to do them.

Was a stay at home mum to my children until last year (14,11,9) then started my own business selling natural stone tiles on the internet etc....
Hubby had been doing it for other people for years and they all took the p**s...so he came home from work one day and i told him id took a loan out and get on with it!
Best thing i ever did! Love it and can work from home when i need to ...kids hols etc....
Good thread!
