What is the one bit of information you wish you had been told

looking to make a change!
whilst starting your WLS journey?

That losing "a stone a month" is complete fallacy, and the reality after the first few months is more like 2lb a week.

That the weight does not just drop off of everybody !

That is a good one. It IS magic bullet of sorts for some people but for some it doesnt melt away the pounds at the speed that they expect it to. For me it has melted plenty of weight away quite quickly but my average weekly weight loss is usually no more than your average non surgical dieter, I think that this would suprise many people going into surgery expecting the weight to fly off at a rate that would astound and shock.

I wish I'd known that I would still feel hungry and that head hunger and stomach hunger are two different things! Also, that I would have so many stalls as I thought the weight loss would be constant.

I wish i had known that my breasts would turn into empty sacks..........I would do it all again though, the good far out ways the bad. x
Oh and that carbs give you the weirdest feeling(and not in a good way) if you eat too many.

That your relationship with food would change so drastically. Before the operation food is all you think about. Afterwards, even the thought of food makes you feel sick and you just don't want to bother eating at all. Of course it may just be my experience, but I think all the counselling in the world can't prepare you for how it can be.

I am a lucky person that doesnt have that trouble. The first few months I did, I had total food apathy and whilst I dont LOVE food now, I dont feel that way any more.

That until you get restriction (and often after anyway) that it will feel like nothing has been done and you can still eat tons of food...you need an iron will power to avoid slider foods as well...

I wish that someone would have told me how bad trapped wind pain can actually be. I've had laprascopic op's in the past, but didn't get any trapped wind so I really didn't know that it's the worse pain EVER!

Being post op only 2/3 days, at how wonderful my life would change and how great I feel. How it is going to set me up for the downfalls that may come my way.

I may change my tune in 3 months time.

thank you everyone very interesting how most of the posts are very similar and i am surprised to hear the weight doesnt drop off you too. would still like to be given the chance though! lol

Mary,

I am so pleased you seem to be having (at least at the moment) an 'easy' time of it!!! I sincerely hope you do not ever get any 'downfalls'!
One thing that really comes across in these posts...is that it plain to see some have really suffered in their fight to get slimmer...
On the plus side, it is also clear that very few would choose to go back and do it differently, which is a huge boost to those of us that are waiting for our op...or those of us wondering if we are doing the right thing!
Thank you ladies for your words of wisdom, inspiration & support! xxx

Even though the weight doesnt fall off as dramatically for everyone as they would like it is still weight OFF and so it is fabulous.

absolutely seph just a little help would be nice, we're having it cause we've tried every other avenue

That it changes your whole life, not just your waistline. It is the best decision I ever made.

That I'd wake up feeling like I'd been kicked in the ribs by a shire horse!

Before surgery i wish i'd been told......That i'd learn to love myself again and that i'd finally be happy to look at myself in a mirror and like what i see xxx
