Wishing Mandy well...
I am not sure we can judge as we don' know what care she is getting. And didn't Mandy say a little while ago that her PCT had refused funding for psych support - how infuriating...hope they reconsider.
Sounds like you are in ketosis - weight loss mode. High protein diets do this. Try mouth wash, or if it is that bad up your carbs, BUT this could impact any weight loss.
I worry about this happening to me when the time comes. I live alone with no sense of smell, so I will have to rely on my cat...
Great news that your funding has been approved. Length to op varies greatly from area to area, hospital to hospital. Which hospitals have you been given to choose from?
Calm Down! Some hospitals don't even ask patients to do a pre-op diet, and if you get back on track now you still have a few days.
Some people naturally have big livers, others don't. Of course in an ideal world we would all stick to the pre-op diet, but one slip up is unlikely to cause a...
Self-funding will not guarantee the op. Mr Somers will offer you surgery if it is appropriate for you and safe. He will review your eating history and health issues and then discuss the options with you. Good luck.
Loose skin is not always inevitable, but if your skin's elasticity has gone then no amount of exercise will help it. I am also worried about the excess skin, but hope the health benefits of carrying less weight will outweigh the melted candle look.
I guess though once at target weight, it...
Well, I think it's a bit different for me as I am a revision and Mr Somers has already removed my band. I was approved for further surgery (the funding) in Feb/Mar time, which was confirmed in September when I said yes to an RNY.
I have been told that March is my cut off time (although I have...
I'm in a similar boat (although my rny is technically a revision). My op is likely to be Feb maybe March and I am eating for England (if not the world...). I saw Mr Somers and he said that I shouldn't worry about it, only in some cases where the weight gain would change the op from acceptable to...
I haven't heard of this although the two hospitals I have been with both actively encourage as much cardiovascular exercise as possible pre-op to improve lung function - obviously within the parameters of what one is able to do without causing other problems...
He was straight forward and honest which I liked, but I think it was the stuff he was portrayed as saying whilst the patients were in theatre that seemed to upset a lot of people...
No doubt it will re-spark the debate!
I think one of two things will happen with this, either all of England will have to conform to NICE guidelines thus ending the postcode lottery (well, we can dream!) or the most likely solution is that whilst someone in say Sussex sees a GP in Surrey to get wls, the GP still has to apply to...
Don't worry you've had your psych assessment already haven't you, so it just sounds as though they want you to have some CBT sessions to support you pre and post op - which is great. I can't see how it would get in the way of your surgery - calm down and call them in a bit to confirm, but I am...
I've seen a few of Mr Slaters open scars (people at the support groups etc seem to love lifting up their tops and showing them off for some reason!) they are all tiny 4 inches sounds fairly normal. Watching Shaw Somers on fat doctor he commented on the small size of the open scar - guess they...
I would imagine that you will still have to live in the PCT where your doctor is based, otherwise it will be chaos - for example Surrey follows NICE guidelines for wls, and I understand that Sussex and Hampshire do not, and as a Surrey resident (not that I would want to deny anyone treatment for...
watched fat hospital - that was a big apron (not sure of the term they used though?). she must feel so much better now.
re The Hospital on Sunday - it's interesting, but beware you may end up feeling angry and upset by the surgeon who was not presented in the best way...
in very rare circumstances an apronectomy is performed where the excess fat/skin would hinfer recovery. otherwise the surgery is high risk enough without doing lipo or another cosmetic surgery on top!! Most surgeons prefer to remove excess skin, not fat - that's what the surgery is for!
