Does anyone on here attend the Bariatric Clinic at Hope hospital or Aintree hospital? I am wanting to know what happens there any information gladly received.
Hi charlie girl, I was refered to Hope by my GP to what was the weight management clinic but at the time of referal it was under review as the dr that ran it had just retired, I waited about 7 weeks and arrived home one day to find a sealed carrier bag on my door step. Inside was a plastic container and 2 lots of blood sheets, the plastic container was for a 24 hr urine collection. Later that day(monday) i got a phone call from appointment asking if i could attend clinic on the friday. I went to hope on the wednesday and had my bloods done 5 min of a job at the diabetic clinic(no im not diabetic) and took my urine collection with me.
On the friday i was weight and measured and had my blood pressure done before going in to see a specialist registrar. she took a history from me and was going through the options when Dr new came in. I had already lost 4 stone using lipotrim but had plateaued and was expecting to be told to go back on that but due to my BMI of 50and having high blood pressure he said that the only thing he would offer me was a bypass.
the following day i got an appointment for a sleep analasis and dr new has refered me onto the psycologist and surgeon whilst waiting for funding from my PCT.

hi charliegirl good luck with ur journey hun xxx
I agree Charlie, theres a reason for each of us why we're turning to surgery, and anyone who thinks its an easy way out is a fool! even if it were, whats wrong with taking the easy way if it works? Some people are just ignorant of whats truly involved. If they could see my husband in tears worried he's going to lose me they wouldn't say it was easy.
Hi Charlie
Mine was pretty much the same as HC's. I went to my GP to ask for a referral for bariatric surgery, got referred to the weight management service which was part of Hope but at a different place. I had a few meetings with a lovely lady who is one of the dieticians but she said pretty early on that she would be referring me for the surgery. I didn't have to do a diet as such, just to try and keep my weight down. I'd already been down the Cambridge, medication, slimming clubs route plenty of times to no avail (good losses but then just piled it all back on and more besides)
I then saw the wonderful Dr New at Hope (after the plastic urine collection tub and blood tests!!) who recommended me straight away and here I now am, with only 4 days to go until my appointment to see my surgeon in Leeds - I can't wait!
Hope this helps a little, if you have any more questions fire away!

hi charlie, i had my bypass done just ova 1 year ago and so far have lost just ova 8 stone, its the best thing i have ever done well worth it, i can vouch thats its not the easy way out it takes a life long commitment once u have had it done good luck xxx
Hi
Well I went to see my GP in early December last year and I first went to the dietician on about the 10th February. I know I'm lucky to have things move to quick for me, some people have to wait years.
