Band or sleeve

Hi I'm booked in for a band on 16th august but reading through the forum just wandered everybody's thoughts of if a band or sleeve is best & the cost differences ???

In this country I think bands are 4-6k and sleeve 9-11k. There are pros and cons for everything. I am a band to bypass revision so I would advocate for bypass but there will be people who have had success and failure with everything.

Becky - I think you have to do what suits you. I'm having a mini-bypass and I discounted a band pretty early on because I have an extremely busy job and don't feel that I have the time for the regular tinkering with fills to get the restriction right. I also felt that I didn't want to rely on restriction alone to lose weight and wanted the 'back up' of malabsorption.

However the band works really well for others. If I were you I'd have a really good read-up of all the procedures and consider such things as your lifestyle and whether you want something with restriction alone or something with restriction + malabsorption.

Good luck with whatever you decide :)

I've opted to have a gastric sleeve after doing lots of research into it. I decided that a band wasn't enough for me, I needed the part of my stomach removing that gives me appetite. I also didn't want to have to keep having the band adjusted.

In the end it's entirely personal. Everyone will have their own experiences. I just know that I wouldn't behave myself enough to get the most out of a band.

You can get UK sleeves direct with surgeon for about £7.7k and you still use the same private hospitals

Choosen a sleeve myself a band is never permanent and has a limited lifespan because of the materials.

Research research research and then think about which tool will help you best with your weight loss journey every procedure has pros and cons it's such an individual choice xxxxx

She isn't a WLS specialist, she hasn't even had surgery She has no right to enforce her views on anyone x She also has posted on previous bander threads about long haul flying with a band, which were totally inappropriate! So maybe the moderators will step in, and nip this whole band negativity by this person in the bud? Good luck with whatever you decide x
Get off your high horse and grow up please. I find your attitude absolutely disgusting and an insult to the good people on this forum, which I thought was a kind and welcoming place clearly I was VERY Wrong. I stated my option and what I am having done. what I have been told by my medical professionals and research that I have done, no doubt the OP will make there own decisions your rudeness aside.

Thank you ladies my surgeon suggested the band was best for me I'm having my band fitted on Sunday I was just curious to see what people's thoughts were re both procedures .. Thank you again ... Looking forward to my band this forum has been a godsend xxx

I don't think there is any need for that response.

Everyone will make there own choice and every surgery has positives and negatives... I suggest you look back and read some of her posts as she is one of many supporting members of this forum and like others are sharing their personal experiences of having the surgery.

There was every right to my response, since I've been rudely had a go at for nothing I don't care if she has joined or is a veteran it's disgusting behaviour if she is a veteran she should know better!!

It wasn't for nothing...you are pre op. We can all do our research and its upto the individual.

I'm glad you could share Your OPINION.

And the disgusting behaviour...you should get an award for that exaggerated comment.

Good luck with your journey.

Thanks again ladies yes I have researched all procedures & I agree with my surgeon i feel the band is best for me I have read lots of people's dairies on this site bypassers sleeves banders & just wanted to know why people choose the procedure they did. There are so many fantastic inspirational members on this forum xx

Oh I love it when it kicks off a bit!!

All I can say is some people get a balloon, some research balloon and get a band, some research a band and get a sleeve, some research a sleeve and get a bypass!
All have risks..bands fail and leak, sleeves stretch, leak or aren't small enough..bypasses are too big or lead to malabsorption .

In the end none if us know what's in store but some are more successful than others..who knows why. Could be our bodies reaction, could be following rules could just be the toss if the coin.

All I will say is once the weight has gone..if you get there on your journey..look at what you're left with for the rest if your life. It's exciting watching the scales go down but when that stops it's seeing how you cope then.

The loss if food in your life starts to hit after the excitement of weight loss goes, believe me..I'm there, so chose wisely for you and good luck!

Getting sleeved is something I don't regret but it brings new challenges! Like looking like an emaciated skeleton!! But seriously..everyone deserves their own journey and no choice is the wrong choice..we all need each other for advice!

Cheer up gang members x
