Hi, I know this isn't anything to do with WLS but i'm sure someone on here will be able to help !
My 10 yr old grandson has an allergy which results in him having a very red and raw mouth/lips which then dry and crack. This is so upsetting for him and us as we really have tried to work out what the cause is. We think that it maybe tomatoe and we have cut out anything with tomatoe or red colouring in but we still have the odd flare up.Even skips crisps cause his lips to become sore. This often last's for 2-3 weeks in which time he has to suffer the embarrassment and constant irritation. He is due to start secondary school this year so we really would like to get to grips with this before then.
Yesterday my daughter took him to a specialist who said that it would be impossable to find out exactly what the cause was as it could be in so many foods if it was a colouring. My daughter is now going to try to make all his foods from scratch and needs help !
so , does anyone have any idea of recipes for spaghetti sauce etc ? or any good books ?

my daughter, although 24 now, was allergic to food colouring when she was young, the main culprit was sunset yellow, but i think it has an E number now, also anything red. It may help, good luck xxx

Hi hun, my friend's daughter is allergic to pretty much everything so her mum makes everything herself - she uses a website but I don't know what it's called but you could try to google it? Also, she buys lots of stuff from Tesco Free From range x

I tried tesco but the choice wasn't too good maybe I will go and check a bigger store or on line. I did google it and there are websites I will check those again. We know it's probably an e number but which one god knows ! Just when we think we are getting somewhere it flares up again . Everything seems to have colouring in !

The main Additives that cause problems are

E102 -Tartrazine - Found in Mushy peas
E104 -Quinoline Yellow - Found in sweets
E110 -Sunset Yellow - Found in sweets Doritos and some sugar free orange jellys
E122 -Carmoisine - Found in sweets ready to eat raspberry jelly and Calpol 2 months+ medicine
E124 -Ponceau 4R - Found in sweets and shop brought birthday cakes
E129 -Allura Red - Found in sweets
E211 -Sodium Benzonate - Found in lots of fizzy pops

This list is a couple of years old and some of the items the additives are found in might have changed
with sweets Manards wine gums, Star Burst, Haribo, Hubba Bubba and Swizzels Matlow are the worst offenders

Many many thanks for the list ! I think you could be right with some of those mainly the sunset yellow. It's such a shame he can't even have school lunches . I said to my daughter that I was going to post on here as I knew we would get some help ! This is brilliant your all so kind x
