yes they tell u how much u'll have and also how much is already in there ...i found out at my 1st fill that i had 2mls at the time of my op so they added another 2mls. I have my second fill on Sunday :) was only a week ago i had my 1st . But different surgerys, different procedures of course. I'm a private patient too . xxx

Good Luck with your fill today Livvy!!
Hope everything goes well for Alice today and she gets her fill after her disastrous first attempt. Good Luck Alice!!
Let us know how you got on xx

Oh dear! It seems I've caused a stir!

MNL I am so sorry I've worried you so much. I think I was just horribly unlucky. I have been throughout my experience, from poor treatment onthe day of the op, to the fill disaster, to excessive vomitting which led to swelling around the band...

I don't know the lady's name whodid my failed fill- she didn't introduce herself. Now I have seen WLS group, I know that she actually was in the TOTALLY wrong place in my abdomen when trying to do my fill! She was aiming at a lump of scar tissue!! Yesterday at WLS, Wendy got my port on the first attempt and with almost no pain for me.

I actually ended up having a de-fill yesterday. My band had 3.5ml in from surgery and because of all my sickness (on Saturday I couldn't even tolerate liquids), wendy took out 1.5ml, leaving me with 2. I've got to go really gently for 2 weeks to allow the swelling to go down and then go back for a fill.

I have to say, I feel so much better having seen WLS Group. They made me feel relaxed and reassured for the first time since I paid WGA my deposit. I have decided to pay WLS £699 and have a year's aftercare with them which includes unlimited fills, dietician input, support groups, etc etc...

MNL, the lady who did my failed fill at dolan park might have just been having a bad day. She seems to have been doing it for many years and rarely fails. Don't panic - I think I'm just unlucky. However, I do highly reccomend the WLS group and plan not to step foot in dolan park again if I can help it!!

Good luck for Friday. Let us know how you get on.

if we tried to drive a car with an arm in plaster our insurance would be invalidated. I wonder how it stands for a nurse operating a syringe. surly that cant be right. i would be talking to the proffessional nursing body.

hi mnl

Hiya Moe

I booked my surgery with the Hospital Group, and Sally the rep at the Hospital Group told me about the discounted rate, that included the op, the stay, the xray and discharge appointment, and I chose to go that route because I am already under the care of the Obesity clinic at University Hospital, Coventry & Walsgrave, where I see a dietician, councellor and the specialist doctor, so I didn't need the extra support. However, when I had had my surgery and was given my discharge pack from the Hospital Group, the letters about my band etc where from the WGA Group, and this was the first that I knew I was under that umbrella and not the Hospital Group. I am having my first band fill on Friday at Dolan Park, where I had the surgery, but it is being done by The Obesity Healthcare Team. Next week I have an appointment at Coventry & Walsgrave Hospital with the dietician and the specialist and it will be the first time I have seen them since having my band done. The diectician I see also works at Little Aston with Mr Sig, so she knows him pretty well, and I will be getting lots of advice from her, I hope. I also see the specialist and as he doesn't know yet that I have had the surgery done privately, he might discharge me from his clinic. I was under his clinic for over a year, and they kept refusing to do the surgery as I didn't qualify on the NHS, NICE Guidelines. The clinic put me on various meds, and had blood tests, and nothing worked. I asked for the operation and they refused, so I had to pay for it myself. I guess I will find out if they discharge me from the clinic or not. The way I look at it they shouldn't as I have just saved them £5,000, and even if they only see me once or twice a year, just to keep track of me, I don't think it will be any skin off of their noses. The dietician I see is really kind and helpful. I have spoken to the lady about the nurse who does the band fills at Dolan Park, and she assures me that the lady has done several clinics since she hurt her wrist and has only not be able to complete one fill (Alice I am assuming, although I never mentioned any names). The nurse, it appears has recovered, but I am taking my hubby along anyway as moral support. Will let you know how I get on.
take care

Hiya I think it seems unfortunately that Alice was very unlucky with her first attempt at getting a fill hopefully everything will be fine for you dont forget to let us know how you get on.
Take Care xx

hi mnl
just to say goodluck for 2mos and let us know how you go..
glad they reassured you at dolan park that the nurse has recovered.
take care
emma

mnl I am sure it will all be fine for you. She was just having an off day and I was very unlucky. However, no matter how bad her wrist was, she was never going to complete my fill because she was putting the needles into a lump of scar tissue that is about 4 inches away from my port!! Maybe my port was hard to find, but at WLS, wendy got it on her first attempt!

The other thing to warn you about is this lady's dietary advice. She rattles through lots of advice before the fill, and lots of her advice made me vomit when I followed it. Just let her do your fill then follow your dietician's advice.

Let us know how you get on! Oh, and I never say anything on an Internet forum that I'm not happy to be repeated so although I am grateful for your thoughtfulness in not mentioning my name when you spoke to the care providers, do feel free to do so in the future.

Alice xx

Hiya Alice

Hiya Alice
how are you feeling since your aspiration on Sunday? has the sickness subsided? did you have to stay on fluids for a day or two after the adjustment?
How is your eating going now?

do you know if you have a large band or a small, and what capacity it is. I understand I have a small band with a 10cc capacity.

I am sort of dreading my appointment tomorrow as I think I might have gained weight. I am really hoping that I will have enough fluid put in to feel a better restriction than the no restriction that I have at the moment. How is your weight doing?

Do you weigh yourself very much?

I personally tend not to weigh because before I had the operation, and I was on any kind of diet, I used to fixate on the numbers and if I hadn't lost one week, would work out harder and cut out food more the next week. I don't want to get into that type of situation again. The last time I was weighed was when I went to see Mr Sig for my discharge appointment, and he had said that I had lost 13kg at that point. I can;t remember who did your surgery, was it Mr Sig, or one of the other surgeons?

Anyway, this time tomorrow my appointment will be done and dusted, and I hope that I am happy with the outcome. Will let you know :)

Band Fill Done

Hiya
well the gods must have been on my side. I had my band fill, and luckily enough the nurse got it first time (although I had to lift my legs to get my abdominal muscles to push the port to the top). I had 2.5ml in the band already and the nurse put an additional 1.5 mls for a total of 4mls. I was extra lucky as the nurse who works for Obesity Healthcare was on a training course or something today and they had a fill-in nurse, who works for the Hospital Group do the band fills today, and she was really nice, helpful and had no problems finding my port. It wasn't too painfull, but a really weird sensation when they pulled the fluid out the band to see how much was in there and then added the additional fluid. Anway just a quick post to let you know that I got on fine.

MNL:)

I am going to have to book to get another fill as I am starting to feel hunger again. Does anyone know if there is a certain amount of time you need to leave between fills? Going to make enquiries tomorrow as I dont have another appointment for 2 months and dont think I can wait that long.

Hiya EGreen

Hiya,
just an update with regards to my band fill (1st one done on 12/09), it is still early days, but I am not feeling that hungry at the moment and most days miss at least one meal, usually lunch. Monday and Tuesday, I could only manage 1/2 of a weetabix for breakfast, that was it. I am struggling so far with drinking a full cup of tea. The lack of hunger, is a powerfull feeling, strange. My stomach growls almost constantly, but I am not feeling hungry, its a weird sensation because one part of my brain is saying, "its breakfast time, you should be eating breakfast, Its lunch time, time to get something to eat, etc etc, while the other side of my brain is fighting it off, saying that "you know that you are not hungry, you don't need to eat anything right now", so far the sensible part of my brain is winning, but, I seem to be more tired and finding it hard to get motivated to get up at 6am to go to the gym every other day for an hour workout. The doctor I see under the NHS has said that this is normal and I have to try really HARD to get some multivitamins/multiminerals in me, I am just not disciplined enough to keep up the vitamins. Anyway I don't know if anyone else has this fight going on in their mind, with one side saying eat, and the other side saying you are not hungry", but would welcome anyone else's comments or opinions on this, and whether you have experienced this also.:D
