Help!!!!! Going Private - Minefield

Sarge

New Member
Ive decided to go private with a bit of help from Mum & Dad. Now starts the search for the best clinic and surgeon. I live in the Northwest any suggestions?:confused::confused::confused:

I know it's the other side of the Pennines, but I had excellent treatment from The Leeds Nuffield. It is a bariatric surgery Centre of Excellence. My surgeon was Prof. McMahon - one of the best in the business - but the others there all have excellent reputations.

I'm 6 weeks post-op, and have had no pain and no problems with food as yet!

Good luck!

Thanks for the posts. Been looking at Cosmetic Bliss & WLS Belgium. Not sure if anybody on here has been abroad for surgery. Think I need some feedback before going down this route.

I am 3 weeks post op and used the WLS group here in sheffield using the Claremont hospital having Dr Ackroyd as my surgeon cannot recommend that place enough, brilliant staff, lovely room and an amazing band! had no troubles with my band as of yet!! If you decided to go with them, feel free to ask me as many questions as you like!!!

You have to feel confident in your decision as they a massive link in that chain of success :)

I looked up the local bupa hospital, researched the surgeon then made my choice, i chose one near to where i lived so that if there were any follow ups or emergencies it would be the quickest way to get to them.

my surgeon was fantastic, didnt have any pain except wind and they text and call me to ensure i am ok

I also used wls group, same hospital, same surgeon, but a bypass.

I would not recommend wls group. I dont really feel they care. I was rushed in and out of any consultantions with their nurse wendy.

Excellent surgeon though. If i were u i would go direct an use the claremont. Cut out the middle man. Happy to discuss further with you. Just let me know :) xx

CB have a FB group where you can speak directly with ex-patients and they will also put you in touch with others if you want - you can go anywhere looking for a negative about this provider and you will not find one, I know I looked for weeks!

There is also a testimonial on youtube.

Good Luck :)

Hi! I found it difficult as there are so many decisions to be made. In the end I too decided to go with my most local provider, as they would have been doing the surgery if i had waited on the NHS. Also it meant that it was easier to link diabetes aftercare etc. It was a more expensive option, but I knew from the minute I met the team that they had my best interests at heart, and were not 'sales people'.

Many providers were trying to persuade me to come South to Manchester. The straw that broke the camels back and made me go to my local provider was when it was suggested i would only need to stay in hospital one night following a bypass and would be well enough to travel home to Scotland from manchester! I didn't think so!

Sarge, which wls are you thinking of having? I,ve not read any negative comments by anybody using the Prague providers Cosmetic Bliss or Body Beautiful :)
Obviously finances will be a huge factor in your choice too.
Surgery is much cheaper with these companies. I am a nurse myself and many of the foreign doctors I have worked with highly recommend surgery abroad as they truly believe that we are ripped-off in this country. Also, incidents of infections are statistically much much lower in Prague, India, France etc.
Good luck with making your choices xx ;)

if i was going private i would go with wls group the same as sarah, heres a link, good luck :) xxx

The Weight Loss Surgery Group

I'd second that! I am private. I had a few reservations about my surgery which was booked at Cheadle ( Alexander hosp ) Michelle at WLS Group understood perfectly and rearranged things for Sheffield Claremont in minutes when I called them with my moans. They even offered me my money back there and then if I want happy.

Michelle I think is the managing director of wlsg and has had bariatric surgery herself so empathetic.
Very friendly people without being 'commercially friendly' if you know what I mean.

Maybe i need to speak with Michelle as im not exactly knocked over by the compassion and support from them xx

It's maybe different depending on aftercare required too. As a bander you need monthly appts for fills and so time has to be invested in you but just remember they're also a business. Steve sits n chats, weighs you etc before seeing Wendy for a review and then the fill. like any other business they allow slots for appts and so if someone needs to sit and pour their heart out this would mean their whole days appts get put behind, which I completely get. I admit my post op apt with no fill was a complete waste of time just to be asked how you're doing...I was in and out in a flash...so if that's all you've experienced I'd understand why you think the way you do. But I'm just saying as a bander they fulfil my needs perfectly each month at my fill apts!! I'd recco them for sure xx

I also used the WLS group but I went to Belgium to have it done .. You get a good backing from Wendy and colleen .. WLS all the Way for me xx

Really? What was your experience? I had a bill for an ECG this morning for £136 after paying WLS in full. I'll call them Monday and expect them to sort it out but Id really like to know other peoples experiences.
