Journey to healthier me, my story so far

Hi I am new here. I found this site as I wanted to find people in UK to talk to and get advice on WLS.

Im 41. Have Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Liver/Kidney issues, ME/CFS and Polycystic Ovaries- so falling apart with an Autistic young child. so I needed to do something soon.

i weighed 19.2 (BMI 50) 😱
So I couldn’t lose weight. All my illnesses were fighting me. People say just diet 🙄 really because for 10 years I have not thought of that.

GP sent me to Slimming World then Weight Watchers ...
I was referred to Tier 3 Oct 2018. I didn’t lose anything but lost some cms from my waist. Even stumped my dietician.
I was referred to Tier 4 May 2019
I was given VGS Sleeve op in Nov 2019.

today week 22 I weigh 14.0 - a total loss of 5st 2. Totally changed my life.

here are the Cons of Sleeve
- I’m finding my hunger pangs are back
- with the Sleeve I can eat anything
- I have found I can overeat and put on weight😩

here are the Pros of sleeve
- I have a tiny pouch so feel full
- it didn’t change my body functioning like bypass does
- I have no dumping
- I can eat sugar any food and alcohol I want

Both sleeve and bypass changes your life.
- You won’t be able to go out eating out like before on a date night or with friends.
- You won’t be able to eat and drink 🍷 at the same time

I don’t regret it. Today I can walk my dog and son to the park and 2 mile walks. I struggled to walk on school run before.

I still have ME fatigue. I still want to overeat. I need to talk to people and find motivation so here is hoping I lose the 4 stones left.

I repli on another one of your posts before I saw this, sorry.
i do have to disagree with you about not being able to go out eating on a date night or with friend, I’ve been out to eat on lots of occasion, we just have to make good choices...and I’m not shy about asking for a take home bag for the food I don’t eat 😉 x

That’s a good idea. I think I still have my old brain and it will catch up. I was always greedy and love my food. I used to socialise a lot with food so finding things hard. I will get there thanks for the advice.

You've done very well, I had bypass a year ago and only managed to lose 5st 12lb since surgery, I lost more before my surgery over 9 stone, I also still would like to lose 4 more stone, but my weight loss has been stagnant for 3 months now, its very frustrating. I also can eat a fair amount and don't dump on anything. But I do feel so much better, healthier, fitter, so much more I can do now, so I'm happy where I am, but still trying to lose more if I can. X

I agree, I do go out to eat occasionally, but instead of 3 courses I can only have one and if I can't eat it bring it home with me. I must admit I don't get the same satisfaction from it I used to and I find it easier to over eat in a social setting cos I'm not paying attention to my fullness like when I'm at home, but it's all a learning curve.

It’s going to take us ages to change our thinking. I think I didn’t realise I needed to be good still.

you have done amazing ... 14 stones, girl that is phenomenal 😮 you must feel great and be so much healthier. Well done 👍

I’m thinking you didn’t do you homework before your surgery if you didn’t realise that, wls is only a tool and you have to work with it, it’s definitely not a magical cure, each and every day we have to make good choices and try to battle the demonic head hunger, I would even say it’s more difficult than “being on a diet” before surgery
good luck x
