Wound after open bypass was healing well then sun night spotted a small blood spot
so rang for advice was told to see my gp for some antibiotics so
contacted out of hours doc and got some by time I got to see him it was poring with blood looked like a crime scene.

Got up on Monday to go to have staples out and when they took last one out blood came poring out so they just put a large gauze pad on and big plaster told to go back i morning, but they did say nothing to worry about and normal as on Asprin to thin blood makes blood look a lot more
just posted so if it happens to you you wont worry too much Jeff

Was you told to stop taking aspirin before op?

I've not had bypass yet, but have had 2 other op's and always been told to stop aspirin 1 or 2 weeks before op.

I'm taking it to thin my blood also as I have Antiphospholipid Syndrome.

eeek, that doesnt sound too brilliant :( Im sorry to hear you are going through such a worrying time.

Have you contacted the bariatric team who performed the operation? They may be able to offer more advice? Talked to the surgeon?

:) xxxx

Definately speak to your surgeon/WLS team if you have anymore problems. This made me think of Bonita. Hope everything is ok.

Hope everything is ok hun!! I definitely agree with everyone and keep in close touch with your team! And remember to give yourself time to heal!!! You've only just had major surgery!!! Listen to your body!!!

Sounds a bit ikky Jeff. So long as you do as your told you will be fine.

Aspirin does thin the blood as I was told to take them when I had a DVT. Because the blood is so thin it actually looks worse than it is. Seems like buckets coming from a wound but its prob nothing more than a little leak. ;)

Just make sure you do what the doc says, if in doubt ring ring ring. You can ring the Ward at the Spire too as they are really helpful if you cant get hold of anyone.

Red healthy blood is less worrying than smelly yellow / green puss so I would not be too worried - but would have concerns about having anti-biotics for it! A week of asprin is a unlikely to thin your blood to any great extent - just make sure the wound dressing is changed regularly and you keep the wound clean and it should heal up in a matter of days. Good luck.

Jeff keep an eye on it. If you have been doing a bit more than you should have you may have triggered a small internal bleed (this happens sometimes), the only place it can escape from is the wound.

It may also be a combination of normal healing fluid (the stuff the forms scabs) and the fat breaking down and turning to liquid.. Is it slightly watery and pinkish?

When the fat is breaking down quickly in some people it turns to liquid very fast which means that although the skin on the inside and outside of your scar can knit and heal, the layer of fat in between them can't and this is why some patients experience this fluid leakage from their wound. Keep an eye on it and go straight back to your bariatric team if your worried, show any sign of swelling, it becomes bright red or very dark red, or the bleeding doesn't stop.

Take care.
