Liver reducing diet...failed!!!

Take what you like from this forum and leave the rest. That's what I do :) people all have different styles. I personally take a soft kind route but others can be a bit more direct. Sometimes I cringe when I read some posts on here and would be crushed if they were directed at me. I just try to think we are all people with head issues!!! As well as weight issues and I genuinely believe we all care about each other (((Huggs))))

Please don't disappear love. This is a great source of advice and support

I am really struggling with my weight I am sitting at 12stone down from 15.5. I was banded in August. I did get down to 11.7 but have gained half a stone. The band is a tool but we actually have to do all the hard work once the honeymoon period is over. It is harder than I ever believed possible. I can still do a full plate of sweet and sour and fried rice or a full portion of fish and chips. Having said that I am seeing my surgeon in a weeks time again as they think I may have a leak in my band. I have never really felt any restriction!!!

But Chrystal on the other hand has lost an amazing amount of weight with no fills. So obviously Chrystal has a better band head than I have but is all down to what's in our head. I still find it incredibly hard to stop eating when I'm finished my small portion ;-(

Chrystal posted a great link on her diary about how the band actually works. It doesn't necessarily stop us overeating, we have to do that for ourselves. But it does keep us feeling full for longer - the people who are most successful don't go for fills because they are eating too much at meals. But they get hungry quicker in between meals. Maybe Chrystal would re post the link for you

Do I regret having my band? Hell no! It's an amazing tool - i just need to bring it out the cupboard, dust it down and start using it properly. But I just wanted to post this to let you understand. From a struggling bander - and there are many of us on here - that this is So so hard and we still have to do the hard stuff day to day

But....I think you will do great and I would love to hear all about your journey. So keep posting. Good luck with your pre op diet xxxx

:) Kirsty as always has the right words ...bless ya :) I will repost that link in my diary soon as I get there lol deffo today x x x

I struggled with the slim fast pre op diet only because I couldn't stomach the milk...

I'm doing under a 1000 calories and under 100g of carbs... It's relatively easy... I have My Fitness Pall to keep track.

Maybe you just haven't found the right pre op diet for you??

Just a thought. Gem. X

Hi flirty. Tried to send you a wee message to wish you good luck and kind wishes for this week and for your upcoming surgery. Hope your doing good xxx

Whilst the term "you need to wake up" may be considered harsh by some, in reality, it's what Wls is for all of us - a wake up call.

We *all* need to wake up and realise that the overweight conditions of our body are only our own doing. The wake-up call is realising that we need to do something about it.

I can't give to much advice regarding the specifics of the band as I'm a bypasser, but I too had to do the LSD before surgery. I considered it training to get my head in the right place pre-op, as post-op I'd have no choice but to be ultra strict with myself. It worked.

Wishing you the very best of luck. x

Good luck with your op :)

I was really lucky and didn't need the pre op diet - I just know that I would have really struggled with it like you. It was only after I had the band that I managed to get my head in the game and focus on what I needed to do to shift the weight.

Thank you for the lovely words of encouragement & guidance.

I had my pre op yesterday & met the nurse specialist, dietician & physiotherapist...all lovely.

They asked me about my LRD to which I honestly admitted that I hadn't been great & only started on Monday...they said don't worry about it as won't be an issue with u...hooray!!!!

I've amazingly lost 2kgs & not sure how!lol

With my issue with food being never full they have recommended I ask my consultant to put a fill in my band in theatre to start off with a restriction???
I haven't heard of this before...anyone else experienced this?
Do you think I should wait or ask for the full in theatre?

Thank you in advance of the guidance...3 days & counting until the start of my new life :)

I had some fill in my band from the point of operation, I had my op 16th Feb and to date have lost 3 and a half stone with no fills since the op. To be honest, could have lost more but I'm losing, reducing fat percentage every week, (not just about weight), getting more energetic, exercising more so I figure a I can afford it. Saying that, likely I will have a fill at next review I think. A regular poster (Crystal) has never had a fill and lost shed loads.....

Thank you Siana58 you have done amazing :)

I will ask for a fill during the op as the dietician recommended as by the sounds will start me off in the right direction.

I'm having my op at the BMI Alexander hospital at Cheadle in Cheshire.

Ok, a word of advice...don't get too sensitive. We are all in same boat on here and recognise danger signs, and many of us have fallen in bear traps...all that is said (with a few notable exceptions) is said with good motive. We are addicts, emotional eaters and Humphries, we need to acknowledge that and move on. I am old, it's taken me years, I would not wish that on anyone else so .....

I think some people on here are far to critical and hard on newbies.

My LSD was a nightmare. I struggled so much. I cheated on around 4 out of the 12 days. I posted on here for advice and got laid into.

After my op I asked my surgeon about my liver and he said it was a little fatty. But surgery went ahead fine.

Since the op my attitude towards food has changed.

The liquid stage was easy as I was too scared to even think about trying falls due to the fact I was recovering from surgery and I felt awful anyway.

The soft food stage was great as I was eating lovely homemade meals etc shepherds pie.

The normal stage was when my appetite came back as normal and I could eat normal amounts and felt hungry.

I had my first fill Saturday just gone and had 6mls in a 15ml band. Since then I've lost 6lbs and have no hunger, I'm full and satisfied on very small portions and my attitude to eating has changed.

Now I have the band my will power is fantastic. Once you have it I feel you will be the same !!

Just stick to the liver diet strictly for the remaining 6 days and you will be fine. Plenty of water too will help.

Where is your op ? How much do you want to lose.

You will be fine, expect criticism when you post on here. You will get it everywhere.

Yesterday I treated myself to a biscuit with my tea at work and someone jumped on me and said 'Oh my god you can't eat that you've got a gastric band' !!!
I just laughed and said thanks for the support lol

Xxxxx

Maybe it's not criticism but a desire for all of us to succeed? We're on here for the same reason - surely we all want to be successful?

One thing's for sure - you need to develop a thicker skin if you're having bariatric surgery. There are critics everywhere.

Oh yes, I head a team of people, a new member of staff was holding forth the other day about bariatric surgery and how all that is needed is to eat less and move more, how it shouldn't be allowed, even privately funded etc etc. Now no one at work knows about my band, I resisted the urge to blurt it all out, and took her to task about publically stating personal opinions that could be deemed inappropriate during her first probation review. It was hard....

I had 3.5ml in my band during surgery. I did not know this till I had my first fill

You will be a wreck right now with your surgery so close

I was totally bricking it lol xx the only thing that go my ass on that op table was that I had paid and wouldn't get a refund

So get to the hospital, don your party hat and gown and your lovely white party stockings and be glad you will miss your whole party! The most expensive party you will ever have lol

I will stop by to hear how your surgery went xxxx

Amazingly I'm not anxious about my op more excited but no doubt Saturday morning at 6am my nerves will kick in despite having had 2 GA's in the past 12 months.

I will update as able :wave_cry:

I got 4mls in my 10ml band at the time of my surgery, all surgeons are different and it's their choice but you can ask when he meets with you just before they take you down.

As for needing a thick skin, well I didn't tell anyone but my husband about my surgery so have never needed to get a thick skin. This place is where I come for support, encouragement and advice. I'm a bit of a sensitive soul and doubt I would come back if I thought people were having a go at me.
