Not good this morning

On my wl journey at last
Hi everyone
I was just wondering whether anyone else had experienced what happened to me early this morning.
I woke up with a burning horrible taste at the back of my throat, and started coughing and urging. I brought up some bright yellow stuff that looked like bile, and it was very acid like. It really frightened me as every time I coughed I got this awful taste and had to bring this 'stuff' up, it was also a bit mucous like (yuk).
I managed to go back to sleep for a while and I do feel a bit better now, and have just had a glass of milk to drink which seems to have gone down ok.
I have phoned my bariatric team but the specialist nurse is in a meeting and won't be able to ring me back until later in the day.
So I thought I would ask you fantastic guys in the meantime, as it has scared me a bit, this is really the first time anything nasty has happened (apart from the weight loss being so slow lol), and I guess it really hit me that I had been altered around inside and was this a sign that something was going wrong
Thanks for reading this, any advice or thoughts would be good.
I am so glad I belong to this site :)

I've experienced the very same thing. Sometimes I've woken in my sleep managing to stop myself hurling.

What I believe it is is that it's fluid that passes back up when you're laid down, like being sick but with no chunks. Sorry, that's the best I can do to describe it.

The burning sensation is your stomach acids that are used to breakdown the food.

Try some chewing gum and a nice drink of water. It's not pleasant but nothing to worry about.

Hi Jan
I've not had this experience so can only talk from a possible cause. It sounds as if it might have been a reflux type of reaction especially if the bile was acid like and it caused a horrible taste. Also if milk has helped then that would add up to. Hope you feel better soon and let us know what your team say xx

Thinking of you Jan and do hope you are soon feeling better... sending a big hug to you xxx

Are you taking any antacids Jan?

Hi, yes am taking zoton fastab 30mg in the mornings.
Thank everyone for taking the time to reply, still not heard from my team yet, but don't feel quite so panicked now xxxxx

Sincerely hoping you are feeling better as the day progresses and hoping your phone call will be here soon from the team... sending you a loving hug Jan...

Bev and family xxx

Jan please don't panic hun i had exactly the same thing happen to me once or twice early post op when on solids. I personally think it's from trapped wind from eating too fast and there's a bit of food trapped too. Laying down helps the wind come up but with the food there it has to come up. I had the bile/phlegm type stuff too... I also had it in the car whilst driving once, the mucus type thing came up whilst i was driving, totally unexpected... i couldn't spit it out yuk yuk....

DONT chew gum though, us bypassers cannot have chewing gum... I found after a day like this staying on milk n fluids helped... xxxx

Only question is now are you normal or are we both a bit strange???? Hmmm ponders

Hi hun,

just sending you best wishes and hope your problems clears soon. Make sure you do get in contact with your team, even its only to put you mind at res.:)

Hey Jan, sending lots of love x

Hi Jan - hope your team have reassured you:)

Thanks everyone, had a phone call, they aren't sure what it could be, but advised me to stick to liquids today, and take it easy over the weekend, and call the doctor if it gets any worse. They may call me back into hospital if it does get worse.
Here's hoping it will be ok, am still feeling icky but have been sleeping most of day. xxxx

Good luck Jan and please rest up, hoping tomorrow will be much better for you.

Lots of love xxx

jan, i was told to take 2 fastabs for the first 6 months, 1 in morning and 1 at night, then after 6 months, reduce to 1 a day, maybe taking one at night might help with any acid build up you might get. hope u feel better soon huni, hugs x

Hoping you are feeling much better today Jan, sending a hug and love to you...

Please take good care xxx
