day 2 post op

So all is going fantastically well for me atm...my partner picked me up from hospital yest (in Kent where we live) decided that at a time of discomfort a girl needs her mum, so he sprung a surprise trip to Somerset on me...I'm so lucky to have him :) anyhoo my question is since op I have been bleeding (down below) but its like fresh blood not period and I'm not even due on for 2 weeks. Is this normal? x

Hi Janey :)

Wishing you a speedy recovery ..

Nicky xx

I don't think that's normal, check with your team.

Yes it can be, the surgery and the poking around can cause bleeding in this way and it is actually quite common after surgery. Do call them though if you have concerns. But I'd not had any bleeding for 9 years since having a coil fitted, but did have spotting post surgery.

Definitely call for advice and reassurance.

When I had my gall bladder out the same thing happened to me and all was ok x

So apparently I have just found out its because of the daily blood thinning injections....perfectly normal providing it remains light. Phew....thanks everyone x ;)

thats interesting, not every provider implements the daily blood thinning injections - I didn't have them at all, but glad youre ok :) you're provider is your first port of call with any concerns :)

5 days post op....

And I'm really hungry :( had completely forgot what it felt like to be hungry after the op...it was lush, but now my appetite has come back and I'm really struggling. Am having everything dietitian has told me to, plus made some yummy home made soup. Am up to 900 cals a day now and back to work tom for a 12 hr shift....its going to be so tough :(

Recovering my appetite was my biggest fear, but its not happened yet so you have all my sympathy xx

it can be hard with the hunger! I've had my band 10 months now and it still hasn't taken away the hunger feelings at all, I can eat quite a substantial portion and still be hungry, my band hasn't stopped those feelings by any means which I had hoped it would. Apparently not for everyone, despite fills! It takes a lot of control no to give in to it too...

Oh wow top kat you have done really well then! I know that my band is a tool of which I need to work with, but was kind if hoping the fills would give me that amazing 'not hungry' feeling I had after the op. I am trying to sip more water and distract myself from thinking of food, its so tough tho. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone x

I hope the going back to work will take your mind off things. Hunger and boredom is why most of us pick up the weight, keeping busy will be better than being home as long as you feel healed enough.
Good luck, thinking of you

A lot of people do find that and it is often at its most post fill - when you're swelling from the surgery has gone down, if you've not got anything or very little in the band restriction tends to return to normal, a lot of people notice this around week 3-4 post surgery.

Even after I've had my fills, it doesn't take my hunger away, I can only tell what sort of restriction I have with certain foods such as tuna or an omelette, I know if my bands tight and there is restriction if I can't eat them, but as for hunger, I could count on one hand maybe the times and days that I could say "Wow I don't feel hungry" - as for people who can have half a chicken breast and one brocolli floret and be full, I will be forever jealous lol

I do find evenings the hardest as that is when my hunger really kicks in. I consume about 300 cals up until late afternoon/early evening, and the rest comes after that time . . .not the best, but its the way it is

Muhsi Thanku so much, I work in an office....so figure I will be doing no more at work than I am at home, hence going back early and not using my sick note! And top kat Thanku so much for your honesty....they don't tell you all these things pre-op! I know going back to work will ensure I don't have too much time to think about food as will be busy, as long as some bright spark doesn't bring in cakes! Lol x

I hope your hunger settles soon. I bet you are looking forward to your first fill

Hi summerband, yes yes yes am defo looking forward to first fill...I'm so curious as to how its gonna feel! Im getting so bored of soup atm - also looking forward mushy next week x

I've put on 2lbs.....feeling really low now. Why did I have to go and weigh myself. Am day 16 post op, feel great in myself apart from being hungry constantly! Have just gone over to mushies....which my wonderful partner says is why he thinks I've put the weight on. I know what he is saying makes sense...after 2 weeks of liquid diet to then introduce carb laden mash into my diet seems obvious I wouldn't be losing as much. But to put on just seems crazy, I'm eating no more than 1000 cals a day, I just don't get it. Is this normal? First fill not until 28th am so worried I'm going to put back on everything I have lost so far. Off to work feeling miserable now. Thanks for listening to me go on x x

Aww sorry to hear that, could be fluid, Iam not that clued up on the band, don't beat urself up to much and as much as I hate to agree with a man (esp my husband) I agree with urs. Can u have soups and things and maybe just try not to eat mash for a couple of days x your doing your very best

Hi

Don't beat yourself up about it
It's still early days yet and your body is still get used to the band being inside of you
Do u mind me asking how often u weigh yourself?as our weight can go up and down throughout the day xx

All the research I have done on the band and the booklet my surgeon gave me all states this is completely normal! As soon as you start to each soft diet, yor weight will increase slightly until your body adjusts and you have a fill etc. I know its hard but you have to be patient (I am sure I will be feeling like you in two weeks time) and your post has made me decide now not to weight for a month after I have had it hehe! Relax, dont worry, remember its normal, think positive. You wont gain all the weight you have lost.

Best wishes!
Hollie xx
