Just looking for a bit of advice.
I have suffered with plantar fasciitis on and off since I was pregnant with my 9yr old :(
Just wondering if anyone had it and it's improved since your WLS? Somedays I limp most of thd day, so painful throbbing. Vicious cicle foot hurts I dont want to walk about, sit on a$$ because foot is throbbing, gain more weight.
Thanks

I had that several years ago. Hell - it's PAINFUL. Very painful. I really feel for you.

It did eventually go. You must wear shoes for support at all times - even when in the house. Something with good arch support. I had it for about a year. I don't remember if it was before or after I had my son (before I think). It needs time for the inflamation to go down and losing weight can only help.

Get something really comfy and well cushioned for in the house - I had some Kicker mules (trainer type slip ons) at the time. I dont think they make them now...

Saying that - I was a lot lighter when I had it. It went then I put a load more weight on. Thankfully it didnt come back and weight is on the way back down

I've suffered with it on and of for about 7 years. I used to work somewhere where they were very strict about out footwear (ie no trainers). Since I moved job 3 1/2 years ago I've worn walking shoes to work and made sure that all my other shoes have proper support. It improved with these measures. It doesn't just effect people carrying excess weight. But after nearly 5 stone loss, I think it is a little better, as are my other aches and pains (most of which I wasn't even aware of!)

As I have become more mobile mine has become so much worse. I am hoping that it will ease as the weight comes off. Fingers crosse

It might be worth you ringing your gp surgery and asking for a referral to the msk physiotherapy clinic. They should give you a treatment plan and exercises to help alleviate it. Good footwear with insoles and a good anti inflammatory pain relief will help too.

I had this for many years along with other leg related issues (Achilles, Calf and Hamstring) but since the op I've not has an issue with any of them. and I'm walking more (because I can now). So it could be the increased exercise that's fixed it or it could be the weight loss or a combination of the two. Whatever it is I'm sure glad it's gone!!! you have my sympathy :)

I suffer from this too, and saw a specialist a few years ago. I was given some exercises to do to improve it but he also said that carrying so much weight around was not helping.

The exercise was a a calf stretch, held for 30 seconds, alternate feet, and in sets of 3, can't remember how often, but I think as many as you can spread throughout the day

Sooo painful! Mine has kicked off again since upping the exercise. Walking and treadmills just irritate it so I stick to rowing, cycling and the stepper for cardio at the gym and just walk to and from school etc. I always finish at the gym with a good stretch of my instep and although it makes it agony for the rest of the day, treating with ibuporfen gel before bed means I wake up and can walk!!! It really is a pain......literally.

Thank you all so much for your advice.

Really didnt think it was so common, whenever i tell anyone why im limping they have never heard of it! I`m a student nurse and walk miles everyday while out on placement ( iam now, until end of july). I have insoles in my shoes, had physio, HAD a really bad allergic reaction to Diclofenac so i now take codeine but that`s not good long term, especially for constipation

I will also stop walking about bare footed, which i was never told not to do.... arrrgh it hurts so flipping much and never goes away, its really getting to me the pain is awful and it has certainly contributed to my weight gain..I will even have the injection now if the Dr will do it, i refused before

I will let you know if it gets any better, cheers

Very common for those of us in the nursing profession!

Yes all I also had it for years, had heel spur first then bout of fascitis in both feet very painful indeed, always had a job where am on my feet have tried lots of things. xx Have to say that is the one thing I really love since my wls op almost 2years ago Aug 2011have no probs at all with my feet, I get up and walk all over its such a reluef not to have that any more I lived with that for bout 10-15 years easy off n on the heel spur was worse though goodness me that even hurt when I elevated my foot. xx

PF is sooo painful and I had it for over a year. The podiatrist I saw told me that I was actually aggravating it by doing zumba 3 x a week. I thought by exercising and trying to lose weight would be good for me. She advised only walking exercise for 2 months, lose weight and wear supportive insoles in shoes. 2 weeks after my consultation I had my wrap surgery. I stopped zumba post op, wore the insoles (even in my slippers) and now nearly 3 and a half stones down I no longer suffer from the pain. I think a combination of everything definately helped.

That's so good to hear Chrisa ... I have had it constantly since 1990 and like most sufferers was in a job that meant I was walking & constantly on my feet. There were times some of my disabled clients could walk more nimbler and faster than I could  Embarressing to say the least lol

I clearly remember those first steps getting out of bed in the morning and my heels/balls of my feet just painfully throbbing.
I suffered in silence with painful feet as I knew my excess weight was causing my feet to hurt so much.
But it's like a miracle has happened now...no more pain at all..just gone!

I have had my foot strapped up today with sports tape........... RELIEF!
Its been lovely to take steps without pain, when my feet are hurting i cannot concentrate on anything else except the sore feet.
I would recommend you trying it its been a god send today

I know your pain and I heartily sympathise!!!! I had the steriod injection after years of suffering and trying everything else - it went immediately and hasnt come back.
Pity its not worked for my bursitis in my shoulder :0(

I found Fitflops really helpful if PF flares up. I'm a nurse and so have Fitflops professional which are leather mules with a back strap. Super comfy and smart with trousers (would look odd if I wore a dress).

I have looked at the fitflops, but didnt know anyone who had bought them. They not cheap to waste money if their rubbish. Glad you mentioned it i might buy a pair now that they do help, ill try anything, long days are a killer!
