Sam's Musings

Lol! I'm never going to look at milk jelly in the same way again!

Well, trying to understand and write my essay today has driven me to chocolate, but that was a piece of cake compared to trying to work out how this new site works. Its enough to drive you to drink as I cannot find where all the new posts are and everything is back to front. My poor little brain can't cope. :(

Hey Sam .. At the top along the softer green strip is the New Posts ..
It all looks so fresh and bright !
How much choc did you eat ? Lol !
Xxxx

I've also just created a button to find all new posts. Tried and failed to do it on MiniMins when we first moved over to xen.

After seeing this post it put a bit of pressure on to make it easier to find new posts within a section.

I hope it helps!

Pierce

Thanks Pierce. I am bear with little brain at the moment and struggle with anything new to learn. Hopefully others will be less dim. ;)

Oh bless you .. Don't worry .. New day tomorrow

Have been off the site for a week whilst focusing on other things and also trying not to let my worries about having the surgery take over my life whilst I am waiting for appointments and surgery date. After a weekend away with friends ( a very lovely weekend that has made up for my rubbish holiday) who fed me rather too much nice food, I expected that when I weighed myself today following a two week gap I would have put some on, but I haven't! I have lost 3kg in two weeks, and am at the lowest I have been at 145.6 kg since I started this journey in January 2015 at 160 kg. :)

have just tried the jelly - very yummy. It split itself in half so milk jelly on the bottom. Good to know there is going to be something pleasurable and sweet to eat when the real work starts.:D This was a Hartleys Strawberry Sugar Free jelly made from the granules. I have also found Hartleys sugar free ready made jelly on Tesco site so am going to try them as well as there is more choice in flavour. They are on special offer this week.
Hi try this as well .... make the jelly as instructed with boiling water .... instead of milk or cold water to top it up I took it to the pint Mark with a can of 7 up zero and then the other day used a can of vimto zero .... it's lovely you can taste the fizz xxx

@SAM55 well done on the weight loss!
@Tracey Anne that sounds like a great idea. I need to get some more jelly tomorrow so I'll get some 7up Zero too!

Changing the goal posts :(

Having tried to put the surgery wait out of my mind, I got a letter today from my GP surgery to say that hospital had written to them to say I needed to reduce my blood sugars from 55 to 50. Consultant in March had said 55 was what he wanted and that is what it was at my last appointment with dietitian and she got a doctor to check he was happy with that, which he was. No reason why they have changed their tune and I cannot got hold of someone on the phone to tell me why. Feeling really :flamingmade:  as this could delay it further.

It must be a real head fudge when the goal posts get moved! This pathway to a better life for some is patched with bumps like this and this happens to be your bump in the road,do try and find out why the change as once you know you can then deal with it, I'm guessing they want to do the right thing by you but they should tell you why
I wish I could offer you a magic wand to change things I can only wish you get the answers you want

Oh that's so frustrating! You can only try and do what they ask of you and you do it! Damnit I'm fed up for you
I really hope you manage to speak to someone and get some answers asap x

Well I have managed to speak to two people today (who should have spoken to each other) and have found out that I should have had an appointment sent me within 4 weeks of March 30th but somehow it had slipped through the net and wouldn't have been picked up had I not phoned with this query yesterday.

They said I should have been told sooner by my GP about the blood sugars as they typed the letter on the 30th March with differing info to what they had told me at my appt. that day. My GP says they didn't get the letter until the 22nd April and it took them to the 29th to write to me for me to receive it on the 4th May. I now have to see hospital on 20th May but cannot get to see my GP to review my diabetes control until 27th, although i have made an appointment with nurse to get my bloods checked before the 20th so I know what it is at least.

A lot of buck passing and incompetence. Next they will be saying my blood pressure is too high!!!:banghead:

Yep they probably will say something about your blood pressure, try not to kill anyone.
Seriously punching or screaming into pillows can help relieve the anger honest x

Well, essay finally submitted tonight and I can forget about OU for a month or so!
Off to see the dietitian tomorrow to discuss pre and post op diet, my blood sugars and a battle about psychological support afterwards as they say I am not funded for it because of where I live. Have done some research with my local CCG and they say I am and it doesn't matter where I live as it is a Specialist Service funded by NHS England.

And England are playing Sri Lanka at Headingley so lots of traffic. :(

Will now have time to catch up with you guys and your journeys. :)

Congratulations on getting the essay done and great to hear from you :)

Well, I am not sure if my trip to Leeds was really worth it today, but I have to go through the motions...

More conflicting info on my blood sugars (which have now dropped to 54) by a different doctor. This one told me as long as it was under 60 then i was unlikely to be chucked off the waiting list. Also found out that anyone diabetic whose blood sugars are over 60 can only have a bypass and not a sleeve or a band.

Wait has dropped since last visit at end of March - have lost 4kg so down to 145.7.

Also discussed milk diet with Mary, the consultant dietician which is more flexible than the piece of paper she gave me says it is. She told me that she was the original author of the 800 calorie pre-op diet. She also told me they are running over their 18 week target waiting list, and doctor (not the surgeon) told me that once they go 1 day over it, they don't care any more about how long you have to wait - so encouraging (not!)

She has finally acknowledged that I am taking this journey seriously as I have acquired from my daughter baby sized plates, bowls, weaning spoons and little tubs to store my lovingly cooked casserole in! ;) I think I have been doing bloody marvelously given that all the motivation and support in what I eat has to come from me.

Have also found out more info about psych support afterwards (or not!) due to the postcode lottery. Another email gone off to the head of my local CCG. sigh...

Getting fed up now with the process which still has no end in sight. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
