Hi All,

As everyone knows, we introduced a new banders section this week to make it easier for the banders to find band specific threads.

it provoked lots of different responses, and it seemed that many of you were keen for the rest of the main WLS section to be split into surgery specific areas.

Doing this would be a mammoth task, so before we just go ahead, we thought we would ask you guys to make sure it is what you actually want.

So please complete the poll - do you want to see surgery specific areas of the forum, or keep things as they are, or do you have any other suggestions for improving navigation around the site.

looking forward to your responses.

I will vote yes on this as I believe that this is a great site and is so very useful for those of us researching our options. Having different areas for different surgeries would be so much easier to do this.
As it stands at the moment with just the banders section, it pushes other surgeries into the background. I have one question that I have not been able to answer and if there was separate sections I may find it easier as it is I am sure I have read the answer somewhere on here , but where?

I think it will improve navigation around the site... it goes without saying that the support and concern for everyone goes across the board. We will always be at hand for each other as we always have been. I do feel that being able to go directly to your area of interest is a good idea... we all know where to find each other and I see this as a positive move for the growth of the forum, it's certainly getting very busy and I really do struggle to keep up with everything. I feel a bit lost at the moment to be honest and find it difficult to keep pace with any questions left in earlier threads, which concerns me if a question has been unanswered, particularly for those new to the forum.

Love and hugs to everyone, no exceptions!

i think it will be useful for everyone navigating the site for the first time, so ive voted yes :)

I do hope the chit social/private/excercise sections remain used by everyone. I just worry that people will tend to stick to their own 'sections'.

It may make it easier to find specific questions, although worried it may segment people.... although I hope not!

I don't think it will separate people on general areas. It's up to us to use each section appropriately and as long as people generally make an effort to check they're in the right section for the thread they want to start it will mainly be an improvement and threads will be easier to acccess.

It will to a degree Suzz as people will be drawn first to their own section. However the social areas will be a place where we can meet for a chat. I don't see it as being an issue.

I would like to see the picture section to be none surgery specific as success is success and shouldn't be divided into the various types of procedure.

I would say that forums with too many sections can actually be harder to navigate for new people, as they can look bewildering and scare some away. It can also cause problems when people put stuff in the wrong areas and the mods have to spend time not only moving threads around to the correct place, but then having to explain to posters who ask in new threads why their original thread has been moved.

Overall I think surgery specific section are a good idea.

It works very well on Minimins, you zap to your area for more relevant advice and also there is the non diet related area for other subjects and a general weight loss bit that everyone can relate to with things like healthy eating and exercise.

It's just change but not all change is automatically bad!!!

It is sounding better and better. I know this will be a lot of work to start with but happy to help if required (I already administrate two other forums and moderate two others (quite quiet ones but nonetheless important to the communities that use them) So the offer of help is on the table.
I echo Bev's concerns and hope that we use the communal sections for all our chatter and non surgery specific questions as we currenlty do.
PS love the banders rant thread can we have a general rant thread please LOL

ive voted yes Sam, i think its a great idea as long as it was easy to navigate for people x

I'm not going to keep 'harping' on, but the strength and popularity of the forum has been borne out of a mutual consideration which extends across the board.

It's been our sanctuary on here for many of us.

Regarding respecting the differences between wls, we can't truly know how it feels for another's type of surgery, but we can always share our usual mutual enthusiasm, encouragement and common bond, that we all have a common issue we are trying to grapple with. Most of us have or are thinking of wls and that gives us a bonding which is quite unique.

I've never known support like the support I've found on this forum and have made lifelong and lasting friendships from here which I will always carry forth in my life... but I'd also like to give something back and that is to encourage and support anyone, even by way of a hug if I don't have an answer...

We are all here for a good reason and no wls is easy in my opinion... plus post op... the whole barrage of hormones and emotions which are unleashed is often not highlighted enough. It affects how we feel from day today. Alongside other trauma's in life, family ups and downs, other health issues etc etc etc.... Every day can feel like a challenge sometimes, it does to me and I like to have somewhere to retreat... my private space with you all on here.

We are all in this together...:grouphugg: and I think the majority are in agreement from those I've spoken to that every specialist wls area deserves and warrants it's own specific area... but the love, support and sparkle continues across the board and I'm really looking forward to embracing the new look forum.

A lot of hard work administration wise, so I think a huge thank you is in order to Pierce, Mini and everyone for facilitating this.

Love and hugs xxx

Yes, and I think there needs to be more mods too especially as there are only 2 active mods.

I've voted yes too. It will make manoevring around the site easier when you are looking for something specific. Also if you are going to have a specific surgery section then it should be across the board rather than just for one type of surgery. New people will wonder why band surgery is being highlighted otherwise. I'm sure once it is established and people have got used to it then it will enhance the site as long as there are still common areas for us to all chat to each other on :)

Well, I'll have to go against the flow on this one. I used to visit Minis and it's a great site. But I rarely went anywhere else than the Cambridge diet section as that's what I was on. If it was just technical stuff about each procedure, or specific questions about recovery or diet for example, I'd support it. But I'm concerned teach section will become quite separate. Threads which were shared my become separate. I notice this earlier this week with the new banders section. A banders op date thread , achievements thread etc etc. That's fine if that's what people want but one of the great strengths and attractions of this site for me has been the sense of comradery coming from the fact that we are all at about to, or already have had wls. I'd be sad to lose that .
