Oh my goodness!! Its terrible!

Let me first say hi, I read some posts here a couple of months back when I was considering the band and I found it to be really helpful - so Im turning to you for advice?

Well, long story short - bmi is about 36, got the band 4 weeks ago, didnt have much of a plan from my doc, but managed to loose about 4kg from my own will power (as dont have any restriction). Was really excited about getting my fill today.
So I met with my doc, he tried to find my port, but couldnt, so said he would do the fill by xray. Discovered my port (which is on left side of tummy) has completly flipped!!! He stuck the needle inside and tried to flip it several times - which bent the needle inside me!! Ahhhhh . . painfull!:yuk:

So basically he said theres nothing he can do, I should go back and have surgery to correct it.

Now my husbands really angry :flamingmad: as he doesnt want me having more surgery - he said what if it flips again! So he wants me to have it removed!

I dont know what to do - I need advice??

shar dont panick, this is a quite common procedure with ports, its day surgery the lady that was in the next bed to me when i was banded was in for a port replacement, she went down to sugery on the morning and was alowed home in the evening, dont be rash with having the band removed its a poroblem thats easily sorted out, and with you only been banded 4 weeks they will pay for the corrective surgery. my 1st port was located the same place as yours my new port is now located on the breast bone between my boobs and it cant move anywhere on the bone.

Thanks Liz, the doc did tell me Id be home same day, but if he placed it where you have yours now would that mean id have another scar in that location?

yes you would have another scar but they fade to pale thin white lines, it will be worth doing your surgeon will choose the location he thinks is best, i dont know why some surgeons still place ports in that area, my surgeon puts all ports in the chest now as so many flip else where. are you a nhs or private patient ?

listen to liz she is wise lol ........ dont remove at the first fall hun ... u got this far follow it out u will see in time and u will be thankfull that u carried on .... as liz says u could b in and out in hrs ... and will be back to normal ... good luck xx

I know about the problems of moving, so I asked my doc before where he would place it, he told me on the left side of the tummy but he would attach it to the muscle so it wouldnt move - he assured me of this many times!! Cos Id actually asked him of having it placed the same as yours!

I was private, Im British, but actually living in Dubai. I reasearched and found the best doc available - hes German and visits various hospitals all over the world every month specialising in this surgery. The hospital is great I cant complain, but this is just a bit of a bummer!!

shar are you a nhs or private patient ?

I replied, but for some reason it said my post wouldnt show until a moderator approved it?!!
So sorry about that.
Im private, although im from the Uk I live in a different country. So my surgery was here, in my new home country!

Shar I cant offer any advice as I am not a bander - but listen to Liz. She is our resident bands expert and knows what she is talking about.

Hope you get it sorted xx

thanks guys im happy to help if i can xxx

Hi Shar, as other's have said don't give up. You obviously felt you needed the band in the first place so to have one day in hospital to get it right again is nothing compared to the healthier life you are going to have once its all settled and working again. Hang on in there and don't be too hasty. Take care xxGaynorxx

shar have you phoned your providor to arrange a date for port revision ? i hope your feeling more positive about things today hun.

liz xx

Thanks so much everyone.

Liz, my doc said he would do the correction any time I wanted, he couldnt say sorry enough!

But my husbands really not happy. I had a terrible experience when my twins where born nearly 2 years ago, and for a while the docs were unsure whether me and the babies would make it (everythings perfect now, dont worry), but it really scared him.
He feels he was silly to let me have the surgery, I have about 20kg to loose and he said hed prefer to just get me a trainer or something!!!

Now im thinking I maybe made a mistake going for the surgery and I should do it on my own.

Liz, I feel your very knowledgable in this subject - do you think having the band is beneficial? I guess if you had it put in the second time it must work for you?

Any input is much appreciated!!! xx

your reasons for having the band are still there you have had the worst part of the surgery already one minor op and your be back on track ,easy to say i know but you have the tools in place now its got to be worth carrying on if you were to have band removed you would still be going under the knife again! just try to think of this a blip and that this time next year your 20kgs will be gone and with band in place wont ever be coming back on . i do wish you the best hope you come to the right desition for you xxx

hi shar, i understand why your hubby is anxiuos, but you are in the early stages of banding and you have a lot to look forward to its just unfortunate that you have a teething problem so early into your journey, your husband probably doesnt understand how easily this can be sorted out, the band op itself went ok for you so theres no reason why a simple port replacement or repositioning would go wrong. getting the band out at this stage would be more "risky" than the simple day op the port would require. on a personal note my opionion is that if you get your band removed because of pressure from a partner you may regret it in time to come and even start to resent your partner, with to a decision your not happy with, this band is a chance to change your life for YOU not him, i wouldnt change my mind mo matter how much i loved my husband i made all my decisions about my surgery for me, yes my husband expressed his concerns which is only natural to do, but ultimatly, this is your body, you have to live the life of an obese person, ask your self this Do i want to continue life like that ? or do i want to take this oppertunity ive been given with both hands and have a good shot at bettering my life ?
only you can answer that question from the bottom of your heart, go with what it tells you, not what others around in your life want. Theres so many ladies on this forum would love to be in the position your in now, and im sure they would agree with me and say go for the port revision.
i hope this post helps you come to a decision only you can make.

best wishes
