hello everyone, although i have commented on a few posts, i have not really introduced myself.......... my name is Shannon, like most people on here i have been dieting all of my life, i remember my mum taking me to a weight watchers meeting when i was about 11....... i had my first gastric lap band inserted in 2004, after many problems Mr Balapuri took this one out in December 2008 and a new one put in in 2009...after this one being unsuccessful Mr Balapuri took this one out in December 2010 and now i am on the waiting list for a Bypass. What i am getting to is the fact, that since i have been listed for surgery, i have actually put weight on..every morning i wake up thinking i am going to start my diet again today... it always turns out to be unsuccessful...i know i am not in the right frame of mind and i am pretty sure of the fact that i am waiting for surgery...i know its wrong... actually i am seriously thinking about joining a slimming club tonight to help me monitor myself.... are these feelings rare that i am feeling...its just that i look at everyone elses profile and everyone else seems to have lost weight for the surgery.............:sigh:

Hi

Thanks for telling us your story, sounds similar to Liz who also had 2 bands but has now had a bypass.

Personally I think its a very good idea to lose weight before your surgery and your surgeon would no doubt agree. The more you lose the less riskier the op becomes.

I hope you dont have to wait too long for your op but out of interest did thet discover what was wrong with the bands ?

x x

hi shannon im like you when i was waiting for a app. after referral from gp i got down and started to binge but then when i had my first hospital app. i was my heaviest i had ever been they said if i gained any weight i would be bumped of the list i have lost 2and a halve stone since going to hosp there was no way i would chance being bumped you will find the energy to get into the right frame of miknd good luck take care

hi maryann..thank you x
the first band i had slipped down and my tummy flipped over, i was very ill before mr balapuri rushed me in after seeing me and taking it out......the second band, i just didnt lose weight with, even though i did everything right, i was unsuccessful... maureen (dietician) went through everything with me, and mr balapuri said..that he will take it out and opt for bypass.......so here i am, waiting away x

Hi Shannon
Please don't be despondent, I am struggling to just maintain my weight at the moment. I am so glad that my surgeon has not said that I have to lose weight before hand as I know I would fail, no matter how much it means to me. As I say struggling to maintain is hard enough but I am also making lifestyle changes like not drinking and eating at the same time, cutting out alcohol, chewing slower, stopping when full etc. All this will help me much more post op than trying to starve myself before the op. I am saving that delightful one for the pre op liver diet as I must not fail on that!. My fear is if i starve myself (which i have to do to lose weight IRO 900 clories per day) I will not then be able to do it for the POLD. I know me and the cycle of lose two stone then not able to diet for a year or two. Hence why I am where i am now and so I suspect are most of us!

Hello

Hiya
I am much the same as you, done more lurking than posting :)
I have an appointment to see the specialist about a referral for gastric band/bypass in May but as part of the whole thing i have to lose 10% of my body weight, about 2 1/2 stone. It's all part of a weight management program that i started last July (you have to do it here to get a referral). Consequentially, between July and Jan, i put on nearly a stone but at the end of January a light seemed to go on and i have been really trying to lose some weight but although i have lost the stone, in reality i am just back where i started :( However, i'm on the right track and feeling more positive.
Something i am finding really useful is Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com, it's free and it allows you to track the food you are consuming, how many calories, carbs, protein etc and your exercise and weight loss. It won't be the thing for everyone but i just found it really interesting and useful in showing me where i was going wrong (mainly too many carbs )
But anyway, sorry for going on, the point was that your head will get in the right place, sometimes it just takes a bit of time or something to trigger it but anything you can lose before the op will help :)
Best of luck xx

I think we can all relate to your story, lots of us have dieted for years and years! I hope the bypass finally gives you the tool you need to loose weight and keep it off! :D Good Luck XX

Hi Shannon
I to can fully appreciate where your coming from, it is all in the mind. I myself am struggling, I think I would do better with a brain transplant, then I'm sure I'd be fine!!
Wishing you every success on your journey
Best Wishes

Excellent, best of luck, let us know how it's going :D

Best of luck with it. I know since I got my funding I have been in a kind of mental meltdown. I thought it would spur me on, but no the opposite. I am determined though when I get my date I will start on slimfast and cut back on carbs to help me towards the pre op milk diet.

Hope the slimming world helps fingers crossed for you, maybe they will unscramble your mind and get you on the right track.

Does anyone know where we get those brain transplants?!

Welcome Shannon!

My first thought after reading your message is...it seems totally natural that you would gain weight after the removal of your band. I know I would be panic ridden if I were in your situation.

How about if you were to try the 'after surgery' behavior modification suggestions, i.e. ... Eating very slowly, chewing your food thoroughly and taking painstakingly tiny bites?

This is going to be my biggest issues after surgery so I'm try to practice them now and have lost 3 lbs.

All the very best to you on your wls journey. Love and hugs xxx
