You so don't look like someone who ever had a weight problem ! I love your philosophy and generous spirit. We all have a lot to learn from you. xx

"I really think it should be a rule that all surgeons tell their WLS patients "You will struggle again. There will be a day where you want to eat like you did in the past and it will require much effort on your part"."

Benrese, this is so true!! The psychologist in my team, lovely as she is, did not touch on this in my session with her pre-op. We did talk about things to do instead of comfort eating, but the mental struggle that comes with all this was not discussed. I'm doing ok at the moment, but there have been times where I have struggled. And I'm only 3 months out. Lots more to come no doubt.

Love the analogy with the car - brilliant!

hugs xx

Hi Blueeyes!

Thank you very much for the lovely post!! You have a wonderful attitude-which tells me you are already a success!

I really think it should be a rule that all surgeons tell their WLS patients "You will struggle again. There will be a day where you want to eat like you did in the past and it will require much effort on your part".

Although that is not what any of us would want to hear-I believe it is true. Now-we may NEVER have to struggle like we did before surgery-but many of us have and WILL struggle. The good news is that we will have a tool-as you mentioned-to fall back on.

Falling back on our tool does not mean it works on it's own. Just because you have a car, full on petrol, great tyres and fabulous brakes does not mean it can drive itself! As a matter of fact-once again..it is ALL on the driver!! It's how we operate that vehicle.

Certainly-having all the best tools makes the ride much better-but it does not make the ride happen without a GOOD driver.

:p Thanks again for the lovely welcome!

Six Month Post Op
Benrese

I'm a fellow American expat living in the UK. :) Nice to see I am not the only one.

Your pics and attitude are fabulous. I am almost 2 years post op (still can't believe it's been that long sometimes) and definitely struggle, a LOT sometimes. I know I will always have food issues but I am so grateful to have this amazing tool that helps me get back on track.

I'd love to chat sometime and compare WLS AND expat stories.

7 years post op... It feels great to have lost 200lbs, but I'm suffering from so many complications, now. I love feeling better about myself and had more energy... but my anemia has gotten so out of hand that I'm having to see a specialist. I turn 30 next month. Almost a year ago, my doctor put a Barts PowerPort in my chest for my second round of Intravenous Iron therapy and routine blood work because my veins won't cooperate anymore.

Hi!.. My name is Ros, I read your note and felt that I can relate to your problems you are currently having. I have had a gastric bypass... 15years and 4 mths ago post op to the day since it was done. And have been in and out of hospital for years now. My starting weight was 163kg... I am anemic waiting on my 3rd infusion and no vitamin d and calcium supplements.

My last stint in hospital was last Xmas for 3weeks with a blocked bowel. In 2005 I got really sick could hardly walk had a walking aid and had fluid in both legs dripping out onto the floor and my weight plummeted to 38kg. I spend 4mths in hospital trying to build the protein back into my tiny frame... My albuium level was at (.8). I have severe malnutrition. 18mths ago I had thyroid problems and put on 10kg in 18mths... I am now about 70kg and trying to keep my fitness up.. I suffer with dumping syndrome every second day... Have osteoporosis in both hips both arms and lower back L1 to L6.

I would love to hear more about your journey or perhaps even share advice if I can or help in anyway?... Great job keep it up!
