funded by nhs or self funded???

Good for you hun! That is something to be proud of you know. If I had been denied for NHS I would have gotten a loan or something but nothing was gonna stop me. So I know how you feel!

:p

Hi,
I am self funded too. Also with Surgicare and Dr Ammori. It would have drove me mad waiting for the nhs funding. I am not rich, I decided it was what I wanted and got a loan. I have saved the tax payer thousands too, so its a win win situation. Surgicare include the aftercare in their prices so I just paid once and get three fills included and all the care I need off dietician etc for 2years. Im very happy with that. Take care x

im glad i waited for nhs funding as i simply could not afford the life long aftercare, as i dont know where ill financially be in say 10 years down th road, for me it was worth the wait as my band broke down 3 years in, if i had of been a private patient then theres no way i would of been able to afford a band removal/replacement, the nhs took care of all that for me.
so for me i think the wait i had on the nhs list was worth while.

yes its got to be looked at as a life long thing both physically and finacially on a long term basis.

i can understand the worry with a band and maybe having to replace if it broke etc but the price i am paying for my bypass INCLUDES as many check ups as i want/need in the first 2 yrs post op then full check up once a year for rest of my life...also includes 6monthly blood tests and access to dietitian whenever i need it. i dont think i could have got a better deal really. as i say i am a single parent so money is not floating around but i just could not fight for funding and wait so ...and actually the money i save on groceries and buying tents from evans etc will more or less cover my loan repayments...ha ha!!!

I was NHS funded for both of my wls, I waited around 18 months for the first one which was the worst experience of my life. My Second surgery was on the 19th of November this year and I think from referal to surgery was only around a year although it took an extra year as I become pregnant with my son and could n't have surgery until he was 6th Months old.

I have no complaints at all about my second surgery its been nothing but a positive experience from start to finish.

NHS, saw endocrinologist June 2006, fell pregnant. Had my son Feb 2007 and after breast feeding contacted endocrinologist again. Advised funding withdrawn as under review within m PCT. Awaited contact, chased monthly.
Got funding agreed aug 2008 and referred to Taunton who tried to put me through their programme of pre op assesment-advised to lose 10% before any further surgery consideration. Got apology letter NOV 08 and appt with surgeon who agreed Bypass-awaiting surgery date!!!!! OH I JUST WANT THE DATE!!!
