hello from me.. just starting out on this journey

Hey TC_99

I'm with Derby too, but decided to go for the bypass. It is 1 injection every 3 months and taking multi vitamins every day, which you can buy at pharmacies. I'm not sure if the injection is on a prescription or what I'm afraid as I haven't got that far yet to ask. I would be happy to pay for it as the surgery is my choice.

I had an initial appointment in July with the Dietician and Mr Ahmed, then I was given 3 months until the Phychologist appointment and a further Dietician appointment. Unfortunately they forgot to book the Phych one, so I delayed the Dietician one as it didn't make sense to have it by then. I saw the Psychologist in November and the Dietician in December and have another appointment with both on 17th March. The Dietician told me she was happy to list me and that my next appointment wouldn't be with her, but with another who would be giving me the pre and post op diets, as long as I had lost more weight. Hopefully I will hear from them soon to confirm that I have been put on the list.

Good luck with your journey.

T

Hi terrilou

I think we have the appointment at a similar date, am away on a week long course in London or I would check. I was not told I would have to meet with a psychologist, just that I would have to see the dietitian. I suppose it would make sense to phone the dietitian and check if I have it wrong.

Thanks for the reply and all the info, much appreciated as it is always wise to know what the process you have to go through is.

Ps: has everyone had to see a psychologist ?

Thanks in advance everyone

Hi! I'm also at Derby and just had the 2nd appointment where i met a dietician and Dr Vessey. I also was recomended the bypass. I got the impression that was there favourite but after doing lots of research i'm happy to go with that too. Good luck with your weight loss!

Yes that was my opinion too, I thought that was his favourite operation, where as my initial decision based on research was to have a sleeve and then I thought you are the experts, so I will go with what you say I.e. The rny bypass.

However I work in an operational role and am, concerned about the dumping element as when things go wrong at work I am not sure how my boss would respond, if I said I am gonna have to lie down for an hour while I get over a dumping session and that's just one example. I have also read a few medical studies that say the only difference between the two operations is likely to be the speed you loose the weight, some eminent doctors reckon that the diabetes suppression is the same, although I don't have diabetes yet...also the vast majority of reports and video interviews says the sleeve is a safer operation, although dr vessey was at pains to tell me this was not the case.

They did say the choice will be mine and if they where asking me today I would still say sleeve.

I have had three different change of dietitian appointment letters, one each week for the last three weeks. Each one a week less than the earlier one.... At this rate I will have zero time to loose weight :)

Hello...good luck on ur journeyx

Time for an update. Went to see the dietitian on the 28th February, was apparently recommended to be listed by the dietitian. They have a planning / scheduling meeting this Wednesday, so should hopefully be listed soon. They needed a discharge letter from the kidney specialist which I scanned and emailed across to them. Luckily on a course this week so am going to be very busy, so it should take my mind off it.

I lost about 4.5 kg between appointments. So all good so far and hopefully good news on Wednesday x

Best wishes to you all x
