I'm new, scared/excited at prospect of surgery

Thanks Penelope, it was ok, I weighed more than I thought but to be honest I've not weighed for a fortnight & been a bit of a pig. Everything is booked, now just the waiting....oh and the 'milk & yoghurt' diet for reduction, lol! My BP was high but with my two boys (one is Autistic & the younger one with ADHD) it doesn't suprise me!

Not surprised it's raised then I work with several kids with varying severity of both conditions aged 11 - 16. Take care and good luck.

Penelope do you have wings? (angel) lol I've worked with year 7 as a volunteer TA & I was worn out, at least at home I can send them to bed! lol

Nah no angel. Just part of a fantastic team of ladies who work with kids of all SEN needs in a main stream comprehensive in north dorset. Many only require minimum support others constant support whether they have ADHD, Aspergers or one of the many challenges they face and we support them all as best we can. Yes there are days when I go home to my kids tired and stressed and others that I feel I have reached to top of a great mountain when one of them grasps a concept they had previously not understood because I found the right way to explain it to them that unlocked that door for them.
Funnily enough I started as a volunteer parent helper over 10yrs ago and now have a qualification as a higher level teaching assistant with a Maths specialism meaning I teach Maths to low ability classes and support in others not bad for someone told she was useless at Maths leaving school with a cse grade 4 (just above failing). So as I tell the kids if I can do what I am doing now from that place you can fly yourselves if you try.
Go girl and good luck with your journey and all you do.

WTG Kazzer, I did 2 1/2 years of a BEd (primary) but finished it off as a BA (english), I wanted to do a post grad & teach Technology but my brain isn't what it was, lol! I hope once I get some weight off I'll return as a volunteer & get some more experience & look for a job as a TA. I thought about sleeves but once I saw the surgery I decided on the band & of course the price is lower & theres no cutting your insides up. What made you decide on the sleeve, if you don't mind me asking?

Hi and Welcome xx

Well just started the 'milk & yoghurt' pre-op diet. Had a lovely (rice)milky coffee but it's too hot for hot drinks, lol. Went on a bender Friday night (it's my sister's birthday today) cocktails, red wine, beer, cider....:break_diet:It was actually 14 day before sugery but now there's no booze touching my lips for the next couple of months, ;)I'm starting yoga to relax instead (two sons with special needs means I get TOTALLY stressed most of the time) instead. We had a bbq yesterday and it was hard not having a glass of rose or beer but I did it! I had lots of healthy (home made) chicken kebabs at dinner and a bit of quiche for supper. I know I will be ok on a liquid only diet, I've done Cambridge before, but the thought of no bread or 'solids' is making me want them!:sigh: I will look at some pics of nice 'normal-sized' clothes online to keep me on track!

I started my low carb/milk & yoghurt diet yesterday, weighed today, already lost 3lbs!! Half of what I need to, I'm thinking anything I lose now will mean less to lose post-op and a quicker date to target. I suppose too it will help me stay on track and get used to liquids. I have a load of Atkins premixed chocolate shakes from a low carb diet I did ages ago, I'm actually LOOKING FORWARDS to drinking them post-op! lol They are SO creamy, high protein AND tasty! I used to have them in coffee, mmmm.
I have to try & think of non-food rewards, I have enough make-up, perfume & hand bags (or at least hubby says so!) so hmmm... looking at clothes in size 16....I'm a 20/22 at the moment so imagining myself in a nice slinky dress at Christmas is keeping me going.

Hi voodoo, I'm just about to reach the 2wk post op and things are sooooooo much better. The first week I found a real challenge with the gas pain, trying to get comfortable at night etc. Apart from a couple of mishaps yesterday where my stomach reminded me it isn't the same, things are going really well. good luck on the milk diet, your surgery will be here before you no it.

Hi Sharon ,
All is good with me. I have been lucky and have not experienced any gas pains at all. I have some soreness at my incisions but I think some of that is the staples. I have not needed to use pain killers since day 2.
Today I have felt hungry, and have had soup and slim fast.
Am hoping to get out tomorrow as am getting cabin fever.
Feel free to keep in touch

Yes, Julie I like to get outside, hope you feel ok. Are you going very far is anyone walking with you?xxx

Yes, Magsy, they were, especially the nurse. I needed to lose 6lbs, blood pressure was high (normally low), I talked to a 'rep'(?) who'd had it done & who explained the 'ins & outs' she was nice, the Dr who told me the operation stuff was a bit brusque but she was very thorough. I've lost 3lbs since YESTERDAY! following the 'milk & yoghurt' diet (plus a couple of hard boiled eggs, lol!) I was given by the 'rep' I've done loads of low carb so whilst I'm still REALLY hungry I'm allowing myself a small piece of cheese or two hard boiled eggs, but after the week-end it's hard core! lol Operation is 'sometime' Thursday (7th June) so I'm trying to get off as much as possible to make the op easier. What are you doing, have you been given a diet or a date yet?

Julie you must be feeling strong, it kills me to just peel & chop a butternut squash! lol Hope your trip goes well, do you have a destination in mind?

No, I wasn't sick I didn't make the instant mash liquid enough so it continued to swell in the pouch.....ouch! As for the post op gas pain, I took lots of mint tea, make sure water is room temp (if it's too cold it makes the wind worse) and moved around as much as poss. Otherwise I'm afraid it's a matter of waiting it out.
