Hiya Guys

Well what a day i have had,let me start at the beginning, are you sitting comfortable?

5am - I got up(good start)got myself sorted making sure everything i needed was packed in my bag,and remembering not to drink anything before we set off.

7am - When we eventually found the Thornbury Clinic in Sheffield after 3 trips up and down Fulwood Rd looking for it,i was shown to a room for the pre op ops to be carried out, didnt unpack as we were told i wouldnt be in that room after the op.
I was told my op was at 9am,given one of those lovely gowns and knickers to match ;),oh and stockings cant forget them lol.

8am - Roger Ackroyd came in (nice man )asked if i had any questions, just 1 how long was the op, he told me 40 mins,he also asked that if he couldnt do the bypass for some reason, did i want the band fitted instead,as he had a problem with someone yesterday,of course i said yes please.

9.20am - A knock on the door, and before i knew it i was walking down to theatre, gave my hubby a kiss and we went in different directions.
I was asked to lay on the bed to get ready for my op,but the bed wouldnt lower, you may need a stool i was told lol, anyway a change of controls and the bed lowered,so there i lay waiting for my blood pressure to be taken, and yes you`ve guessed it,the machine didnt work properly, the nurse turned it off then back on and no it still didnt sound right, change of sleeve perhaps lol.yep that worked.needles were put in my hands and i was given given a mask with some lovely air that would knock me out.(that did work btw)

10.20am - I was waking up in recovery, mouth like a **** well need i say lol,i asked what was done and i was told they didnt know would have to wait until i was on HD and they would be able to tell me more, pain relief was given and what a relief it was.

11.10am - Up on HD,i asked the question, did i have the bypass or band, imagine my horror and dispair when i was told he hadnt done anything ,as my liver was the size of a football so he couldnt get to the top of my stomach.
I just cried i couldnt believe it,i had done the 10 day milk and yoghurt diet and i had lost 10lb,why me?
I was told i would have to weight for Roger to come and see me.

12.15pm - Roger came in to see me explain what i had already been told,he said everyone is different and my body deposits fat in my liver,he could refer me to a dietician but i needed to lose about 5st before he would operate on me again.

Yes i know what your thinking,i wanted this op to help me loose weight, done the dietician thing, loose 5st and put it and more back on thingy and if i could loose that much weight again by dieting, would i really want to put myself through all this again.

Anyway at 4.30pm i managed to talk my way out of the clinic only by promising to do my exercises to keep the blood clots away, and after the day i have i am flaming doing them lol.

Sorry if this thread shocks you guys but i needed to let you know not all goes to plan, even after not cheating on the milk and yoghurt diet.

On a brighter point,Roger did say this happens only 3/4 times a yr but unfortunately for me i was one of those patients.

I am still thinking positive, after all Roger took the decision not to put my life at risk .

Hi Emma

I am currently 23st 9lb ,which is 10lb lighter than i was 10 days ago before the milk diet,so that worked,
i am shocked yeah but it makes me wonder what state my liver was in then  .
I am going to try and continue loosing weight and see how i feel then.If i get down to 20st maybe i will ask the question again, who knows.

Oh he did say i could consider the balloon instead, might look into that, but at the mo my heads all over the place so just chilling in bed.

You go girl, lick your wounds and tomorrow is another day. What are they doing to help you?...Linda x

Hi Di so sorry to hear that all the build up for nothing. Did he say it was a problem with your liver or just something that happens occasionally as I am sure I have read on other threads that people have only had to follow the milk diet for a couple of days and I know that under Roger Ackroyd you follow it for 10 days so you would think after 10 days it would have shrunk enough. Keep your chin up and keep us updated on how you get on.
Sending you loads of hugs xxx

sorry to hear about all this Di! what a nightmare! Maybe a balloon would be a good idea to get you to a suitable weight for the surgery?

Thankyou for all your thoughts everyone,
well woke up this morning aching, but thats to be expected, mind is in overdrive.:)
I have decide that i may go for the balloon to help me loose the weight i need to loose, and looking on some of the other threads,it isnt as intense as the band or bypass.
Mr Ackroyd did say he would do it yesterday,so strike while the irons hot as they say.

Btw Lesley he said my liver was leaking fat as he was moving it,so yeah it was definetly my liver, only myself to blame on this one.

Thanx again everyone ,i will keep you updated.

Me Again lol

Just rang Mr Ackroyds secretary and asked how i go about having the balloon fitted and do i have to go thru my doc again, she said she would have a word with Roger and make arrangements for me to go in the Hallamshire to have it done.

So making headway again,fingers crossed.

i will keep you updated once again.

Hi Di

I'm so sorry this had to happen to you. Glad you've woken up making desicions this morning. This isn't a blocked avenue, its just a hiccup. You go for the balloon Hun, call him this morning and get the ball rolling. Very fustrating for you and your family going through an op for nothing. Why can't they scan you to check the liver size before they operate, it's madness.

Plus I find it weird with all the different pre-op diets out there, Ive heard so many people talking about the milk and yoghurt diet and I've never heard of what this is, is it just eating yoghurt and drinking milk for so long?

My pre diet is:
(daily allowance)
1 pint semi-skimmed milk, 4 cans of diet soup, 4 muller lights, lettuce, beanshoots, radishes, 3 peices of sugerfree gum!

Thats totally different to just milk and yoghurt isnt it!

Let us know how yo get on today hun, let me know if you want my number, I'm happy to talk to you if you just want to go over things.

Speak soon Di, lots of love

Gina!xxxx

That's great Di

You've jumped straight over the hurdle and kept on running!

I admire you for that!
