I had a 6 week wait between Surgeon appointmant and surgery, not long at all and it flies by

Hi, I'm Carol and waiting for my op at Luton, i'm with Mr Whitelaw. I had my triple ap on Oct 1st 2010, was put on the milk diet to loose 5%of my weight, saw the bariatric nurse on Nov 1st and the surgeon on Dec 21st. Im having my gastric bypass on April 8th at 11am. Ive found the waiting the hardest bit but try to remember that each day that passes is one closer to the op.Anything i can help you with regarding proceedure at Luton dont hesitate to ask. Good luck.xxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks again and i will be keeping an eye on all my fellow l&d peeps so i can ask lots of questions x:)

Hi scarlet...
is there a reason why you got your op so quickly after seeing the surgeon compared to others...did you ask to go on a cancellation list??

I think it was down to other health problems.... Also he was impressed with how much weight I had lost pre op, especially over Christmas.

Hi Carol,i have my appointment with the surgeon on the 4th March, could you tell me what the surgeon asks you and why do you see the anethatist(sorry for spelling) and do you have to go back to the L&D before your op for pre op checks.

hi.Carol here, surgeon told me about the op, the benefits and the risks involved.we talked about previous ops i had had eg hysterecomy and he examined me to see the scar left by this op. he explained to me the procedure and the stay in hosp and what that entailed. i was also given the oportunity to ask any questions about him and the op. he then gave me the op date, told me i would be given an appointment for a week before the op to see him again for pre op examination and recieve meds i have to take night before op.i then saw the anethsetist(i cant spell it either) who asked me about previous ops, how i was after anaesthetic and medication i was on and my blood sugar level as im diabetic and they like your count to be under 9 for op. hope this answers some of your questions, good luck and anything else you want to know dont hesitate to ask.x

approx 4 months wait...

I saw Mr Whitelaw today. The date given to me is June 20th. The demand for a bypass is such that it is now 4months wait as opposed to 8 weeks from appointment to surgery.

Mr Whitelaw did say that there are plans to arrange for patients to be put on to a new surgeons list but I do not know when that will be.

My appt details are as previously stated by Carol but let me know if there is anything else you would like to know.

calliope. i bet you are gutted hun, i am as i go on 4th march but this may mean op wont be til bout july. i cant believe it. did the surgeon say that if they got another surgeon then your date might be brought forward or is that it now and its at the 20th june no matter what. im gutted by this news as really got my mind thinking it would be bout the end of april. just have to keep my fingers crossed now and pray to him upstairs. x

yes I was a disappointed about the waiting time, like you I thought it would be in April, but on reflection I think the most important thing is I am on the list.
He did say there may be a possibility of it being earlier if and when they organise the schedule for this additional surgeon. But, he did not indicate when this would be.

I was told at my triple appointment that they had lost a surgeon but had now replaced him. I'm hoping that by the time I see the surgeon they will have the schedules sorted - the nurse did tell me it was about an 8 week wait from surgeon appointment to surgery.

:) well someone at the hospital needs to update their info, as Feb - June is not 8 weeks! :)
