possible obstruction

Pfft, after calling the hospital about the inability to consume even half the suggested amounts for the first 3 weeks i had to go to my GP to get some answers. She spoke to them and after they suggested i come in later in the week, she insisted they see me earlier so will be going in tomoro for some tests to check if there is some kind of obstruction.

In my own head ive been wondering if its possible that tehy just made the pouch too small??? Anyone had any similar problems? or know how they test for this? Is it the dye and a scan?

I had my bypass 8wks ago and since moving onto the soft stage I have hardly managed to keep a thing down. Constantly sick, or dump on the slightest thing.

When I was in hospital last wk Mr Ahmed came to see me and I explained to him that I am being sick after practically any meal and struggling to consume even 500cals most days. He told me everythin was fine (I'd had CT scan) and to 'stick with it'.

It's so hard as I am constantly ill but, on the plus side, have lost 4lb in as many days so not complaining too much!!!

Hope it gets sorted hun xxxx

No tests done today. Totally unsure why they made me do a 3 hour round trip instead of just calling me. Appt took all of 10 mins. He asked a few questions and then told me a small number of people can take up to 3-4 months to recover from the surgery and to stick with the first stage sloppies or go to full liquids if its easier. Only having 2-3 tsps 5-6 times a day.

He moved my first (6 week) check-up forward a week and said if things get worse they will do an endoscopy to check the scar tissue isn't an issue. It's too early for that now as 1/ it would aggrevate thigns more and 2/ if this is becoming a problem it won't really be evident for another week or so.

Not sorry i didn't have the endoscopy today, so nauseous i'm not sure how i would have coped with it; and deep down i think my system for some unknown reason is simply fighting back from the surgical invasion but this nausea/vomitting is wearing me down and getting very weepy all the time now. So very tired of feeling ill. Could have done without the drive this morning that is for certain.

Kinda back where i started .... wondering how i'm going to face eating/drinking anything else today. Everything is a major effort now, just thinking about eating makes me want to stick my head down the toilet......................

Aww I feel for you,I was done by Mr K.Im sure you are being given the best advice though I do understand about the journey as we had to get over there from Maghull.
I would say stick with fluids for a week, very light soups not cream of,protein drinks, smoothies and nibble almonds. That way you are hydrated and getting some protein and calories in.Relax when you eat and I found if I ate standing up it went down and stayed there! The first couple of months can be really challenging but you will get there honest!Maz x

Thanks all... i appreciate the kind words...and needed them..

You above all other people know how i am feeling, and its sucks.. In my head i am trying hard to tell myself it will get better; and i msut confess as horid as i feel i would ahve to get a whole lot worse before i would consider letting these guys near me again. They were still deciding which op i was having when i was in theatre and somehow i keep slipping through the net with small things so i havent had a lot of faith in them.

I just went and spent a small fortune on weird and wonderous thigns that look appetising, lots of fresh juices, the new cuppa soups.. (they are liquid in a sachet which you add hot water to, so hoping they are a little better than the powdered things), and loaded up on one of the few thigns that have stayed down...crisp bread/melba toast and extra light laughing cow (something i have never liked before) but it stays down so its my new best friend

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and after weighing me ..what did the consultant ahve the insensitivity to say..... you've lost 2 stone since surgery but thats all water! So what??? im gong through all this and ive not lost an ounce of fat????????????? Pffffffffffftttttttt he's off my christmas list

Im babbling, im going ..thanks again for the support....

Tbh everyones initial weightloss is water and its just a matter of what size you are when you start as to how much you lose.I only had 100lb to lose so my first 11lb loss was 10%!Then the fat starts coming off with muscle too so we have to be careful to hold on to the muscle.Maz x

The saga continues.....yet another appt today; the 3rd now. The decided to do an endoscopy. Going in next Weds for it. Part of me is hoping they find something so there is an answer to this, ands something they can sort out really quickly. Wait and see i guess............

Hope you get some answers and feel better soon
x

i feel your pain Leighz, i was actually coming on here tonight to write the exact same thread.

I'm 7 weeks post op and still only on 1-2 tsp 5 times a day, if i'm lucky. I am so down about this and keep wondering if anything is wrong. I'm worried sick about it and can't seem to get through to anyone at the hospital. I was sick 3 times yesterday and so far today have only had 1 meal (2 tsp). It's so hard isn't it x

Oh no I hope they find the problem and sort it for you Leigh you have been through so much. x

Aw good luck Hun hope they sort it out for u really soon big hugs x

Yr at the same stage as me hun. Are you taking your fastab? 2 possibilities for this are supposedly an obstruction caused through 'over healing' of the internal wound; if this is the case then when they do the endoscopy they will 'stretch' it..lovely thought!!! The other is an ulcer caused by too much stomach acid if you havent been taking your fastab. I know ive forgotten it occasionally and possibly vomitted it back a few times so im hopeful its not this.

Yes!!!!!!!! It is flippin horrible. |I have got to a point where sometimes i eat and i simply cannot bring myself to swallow it coz im so very tired of vomitting. Other times, i cant wait to get to the bathroom coz i know its the only thing that will make me feel better. I am so hungry most of the time; and dehydrated all the time too.

Another annoyance, apart from feeling miserable ALL the time is when i do manage anything it tastes so awful. My son was concerned prior to the op that i would be 'trading one kind of misery for another'...he got it spot on..........and this is worse.

If all this isnt bad enough, my weight loss has slowed wayyyyy down coz body goes into starvation mode and hangs onto everything we do eat. Lost 1/2lb in a week eating almost nothing. Days total would equal 1 actimel, 2 melba toast with a laughin cow cheese triangle, a glass of juice, and some water......

Please let me know how yr getting on. Horrid to say but its comfortin knowing im not the only one going through this.....coz it REALLY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I'm feeling your pain hun lol....why i'm laughing i don't know.
It's hell at the minute:cry:, like you say there is no pleasure in eating, all i'm doing is waiting for that horrible feeling in my throat and i know it'll either come up ( which it normally does) or if i'm lucky go down. Like you i did miss the odd fastab, but not many...hope this aint the problem:eek:
Feel free to pm me any time. It is comforting knowing i'm not alone in this.
I'm phoning the hospital monday, this has gone on long enough, like i said i'm 7 weeks now x

Just realised you had your op the day before me x

WOW Sarah just looking at your weight loss. 26lb pre-op is amazing. I only lost 14 on this...

Overall you are wayyyyyyyyyyyy ahead of me too. Well done you!!!!! Whatever is going on is working..but dont worry i really do understand that this isnt the way to go.....

I hope the doc sort you out soon

I had similar problems and ended up having an endoscopy and stretch twice. I haven't looked back since. I'll admit, the first two months post bypass were the worst and I regretted having surgery the whole time but after the second procedure I stopped feeling so nauseous and food started staying down. I was that bad at one point, I couldn't get liquids down.

You will get there in the end but it just feels horrendous whilst you're going through it.
