possible obstruction

Thanks jaxx...nice to know we aint alone. I'm just really worried that when i do finally get to see someone about this problem that they'll think i'm fine and just swollen....just want something doing now.
When did you have your stretch, at what week post op hun?

The first one was 8 weeks post op. My surgeon said if a stenosis is going to happen it's usually between 6 to 10 weeks when they can appear. I was worried that when I had the endoscopy that they'd find nothing wrong as although I was struggling to eat and drink and felt horrendously nauseous, I thought perhaps I wasn't chewing properly etc. But after the first stretch, he said the scar tissue was quite tight I had a very small opening. I felt better knowing there was actually something wrong and it wasn't just me.

I hope you manage to get sorted out soon.

So sorry to hear that you are having such nasty problems and I hope things get better for you soon (((((hugs)))))

One thing really worries me, as I have a terrible phobia about vomiting, is vomiting after the bypass the same as ordinary vomiting or is it the sliming type of vomiting that you get after a gastric band? Would be grateful if someone could tell me.

To be on the safe side I think I will get a stock of Motillium 10 in for the early days following surgery.

No exp with the band but generally vomitting is as normal..kinda....difference being its mostly just gone down and returns undigested. I too detest, and fight against it. Or i did until now. After the first couple of weeks i gave in and knew it would feel a little better after a trip to the bottom of the loo! One thing i found helped, coz of the no drinking eating together thing, it was quite difficult if i had attemtped more solid food, so i gulped downn water to help the process along as most often thigns would be stuck otherwise. A little too descriptive sorry.

Geesh jaxx you sound just like me! I told the anethitist last night i hope they find something coz the laternative was more weeks of misery. Like you the opening had narrowed and they did a stretch. Not much to it and im home today.

Just in case you need th same thing Sarah, the whole process took les than 20 mins. You're given an iv line in your hand, and some evil potion spray in the throat...ewwwwww....nastyyyyyy hehe; then asked to lie on your side. You're wheeled in and given the anesthetic. No pain or real discomfort afterwards. You are nil by mouth for a couple of hours then its water only for another couple to ensure there is no leak. Had yoghurt for breakfast and been drinking and eating today without problems.

Still a little nauseaous but im thinking i havent been drinking enough today, Didnt sleep well last few nights and trip to hospital was preceeded by a 7 hour drive....soooo tired

All in all i can only hope that the worst really is over now and i can slowly get my life back. I am sticking with liquid and soft foods for a few days but am allowed to switched over to more solid food when i feel able so heres hoping....sorry if this i s incoherant, think im brain dead today .....neeeeeeed sleeeeeeeeeeeepppppp

hi i am really worried by reading these posts. i am four days post op and wondering if i have made a terrible mistake. i am worried that in i will never be able to drink and eat like a normal human being again. the idea of only being able to eat four mouthfulls of food at a time sounds absolutely horrendous. in no way is this a healthy amount to eat to sustain yourself or a way to healthily lose weight. i am very worried?? is anybody regretting their decision to have weightloss surgery 3 months down the line??

Belinda I felt exactly the same way post op. Please don't stress though, it does get better and you will be able to eat normally eventually. Typical amount of food is a side plate sized portion. The first 2 months post op are the hardest emotionally.

The problems discussed in this thread are to do with a tightening of scar tissue around the entrance to the pouch which doesn't happen to everyone.

My tea tonight has consisted of a lamb leg steak and a small portion of veggies. Normal eating does eventually occur, just not as much pre op. The smaller portions immediately post op are just to allow your stomach to heal and become adjusted to its new life. Once you start introducing solid foods and experiment with what and how much you can eat, you'll start having proper meals. The thing to remember is to chew thoroughly and you should be fine.

Just remember you've just had a huge life changing operation and your life won't be the same as it was pre op, it will be better. I know this is the hardest time as I was incredibly depressed post op but it does get better. Keep going, you'll get through it. X

As said by Jaxx the first couple of months are the worse, you cant eat, nothing tastes the same, you are tired all the time and the weightloss stops.then it all falls into place and before you know it you have lost 6st!

Hi all, I think it's really refreshing to here some not so positive stories on here. we all need to be aware of the shirt term down sides if surgery, but no pain no gain (or loss !) as the old saying goes! keep your chin up. xxx

Hi Belinda. I can't say it's been a lot of fun these last weeks and yes there were many occasions i wondered what on earth i had done but i'm hopeful now that all will right itself. Best i can tell you is to keep looking on here and taking all you can from it.

There were days the only thing that got me through was knowing there were so many people that seemed happy they had had the op...impossible for me to understand most days but gives you hope that all will be well...sooner or later. And also hearing from people like jaxx who had similar problems and recovered well helps.

At the end of the day we all knew there are risks and we had to weigh this up vs not having the op. We all hope we will not be the one to be caught out, but life's not done dishing the turds yet i guess.........

Try not to stress too much about the negative possibilities and concentrate on getting your health and strength back.

If it helps at all, i managed to get through the day without vomiting at all. A little nausea still but i didnt drink as much as i should and this is a big contributor to nausea for me.

Todays eating was all a little hit and miss but I will make a determined effort to re-start the diet sheet in the morning. I will let you know how it goes and hope it will ease your mind.

Let us know how you are getting on too :)

The first 2-3 weeks were horrendous for me, but 3 months later and 4st 7lbs lighter I don't regret my decision for a moment :)
Best thing I've ever done!
Prior to surgery I lived to eat and now I eat to live xx

OK!!!!! Now im getting really frustrated and depressed about this...............

First 2 days after having the 'stretch' all appeared well. I was nibbling away at a multitude of foods and it all stayed down

3rd day... head down the toilet again; ate too fast says i.....
4th day... nausea all day, not eating right foods says i...
5th day...nausea and vomitting, slow down, stick to soft foods and start again says i....
6th day... ok this isnt funny anymore!!! Stay away from protein, any form of bread, fruit and salad and all will be ok says i.....
7th .... im such a dumkoff says i!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nearly 2 weeks later, i am back to a diet of ypoghurt and juice and feeling nauseous 24/7, except for the few mins after i vomit!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE PLEASE wont someone tell me the date (and time if possible) when i will join the ranks of the 'this is the best thing i ever did' club :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

If you're struggling again call your team. I needed a stretch done twice so you might need another one too.

it doesn't sound right hunny, get back in touch, you're gonna become severely dehydrated. stay strong and this will be sorted soon for you. Let us know how you get on x

I cant believe how much you have suffered with your bypass Leigh.. I really hope they can help you tomorrow. Good Luck! Let us know how you get on xx

Good luck for tomorrow leigh

Waiting for a cxall today to find when i go in for my next stretch :/ It will either be tomoro or Tues. Ho hum....such is life.

Found out also, these pains ive been having, excruiating pains in my hip joint, are probably from the surgery; something to do with the weird position they have you in.
