Sam's Musings

Mmmmmmm Curry!!!!!

Did lots of Christmas shopping yesterday, and walked round Aldi, Tesco, B&M and M&S, so that was my exercise for the day. Did my knees know it last night! :( Looked at all the Christmas food in M&S and can't say anything really grabbed me. All I could think about was the jars of peanut butter I bought in Aldi ;)

Cooked some fresh mince tonight to the usual texture i like, which is firmer than what you get in a tin. It was difficult going down and quite painful and i had to take lots of deep breaths. Thought I might be sick for the first time! Back to the tinned stuff...

Also tried turkey rashers - not very impressed so won't get them again when they have gone. Bacon medallions coming tomorrow...

First Christmas lunch too tomorrow - halloumi with sweet chilli sauce and rocket. I have only had halloumi once before at someone's house, it was ok, so hoping tomorrow will be more exciting as I have seen a lot of people on here having and enjoying it.

Taking in more fluid since I tried Capri Sun orange flavour NAS and no sweeteners. Taste buds have definitely changed and much prefer sour flavours. Have been adding a squirt of lemon to my morning hot water. Good for detoxing the liver. :)

Really craving a proper curry so may treat myself to one on Christmas Eve and have the rest for Christmas Day.
I find I need my mince to be quite moist to go down too.

I've loved hallumi since my brother introduced it to me when he lived abroad years ago. It's very satisfying and substantial so when I was a veggie I used it instead of meat to build a meal around :) hopefully you enjoy it but if not you've got curry to look forward to :D

Well, if this isn't temptation, I don't know what is!

Mr Tesco has just been and i had ordered two mini bags of Lindt truffles (2 was cheaper than 1) for Christmas as that and my mini Baileys was going to be my treat as they are so amazing, and Christmas is going to be pretty miserable this year on my own. They didn't have the mini ones so they have given me two larger boxes for the same price!! I could have sent them back but as they substituted something unsuitable for a present I had ordered, one can be used for that, so that leaves me with a whole box full and I only wanted a couple.

Do I give the other box away too and have none? I can hear them calling me know...

After a peanut butter and banana smoothies temptation over. I have wrapped them in Christmas paper and they now have labels on for other people. Feeling virtuous :) There has been lots of other chocolate in the house for a few days now which are presents, and have had no urge to nibble, but it is something about the texture of those as they melt on the tongue that lights my brain up

Very sensible getting them wrapped up :) I'm sorry you're feeling Christmas is going to be pretty miserable for you this year though :(

Halloumi was ok but a bit rubbery because it had gone cold. Service was slow and everyone was waiting for everyone else to get theirs before they started. :( Nice sociable time though, and the only thing I coveted was the custard of the person sitting next to me, on her Christmas pudding. Fortunately those who were having puddings had ordered so wasn't asked if I wanted one.

Someone annoyed me afterwards though and I ended up eating the small bag of chocolate buttons in the glove compartment when I went for petrol, (left over from the two packets I bought at the petrol station when I went away at beginning of November and only allowed myself one bag). I hoped it might help stop me still wanting the Lindt and I knew they would be for sale when I went to pay (and it worked). Petrol stations are obviously a risky place to be! Fortunately now i have a bigger car I don't have to go so often. :)

Working my way through the turkey rashers in penance tonight. I think the rest might go in the freezer until I am desperate for some protein, or I'll give them to the cats. ;)

I'm sorry someone annoyed you and it sounds like the food wasn't the best? (Custard aside!)

@SAM55 i honestly thought turkey rashers would be amazing but omg they are so vile.

It's a shame the haloumi went cold and rubbery as it's nice warm. Have you thought of picking up a small pack to cook at home?

Sorry someone annoyed you. I'm hiring myself out to slap people on the foreheads if you need my services.

Regarding chocolate buttons don't be too annoyed. We can have a treat it isn't a diet blah blah and all that crap. Just think pre op it could/would have been a lot worse.

I'm glad you had a good night socialising :)

I realised my earlier post wasn't clear, when I said the food wasn't the best I meant at the meal. I wasn't criticising your food choices but it could have come over that way. If it did then I'm sorry x

@starryeyed is totally right and I personally think banning anything just makes it more attractive. Making a choice and owning it is far more positive. You made a choice chocolate wise and it worked for you :)

Thanks Starry, I'll bear your hiring services in mind :D . One said person rang me because I had emailed them to let me know they had annoyed me, and we cleared the air. I am not taking any prisoners this week!

I was cross about the chocolate buttons because I was using them as an emotional prop, not a treat, because I had not been able to vent my annoyance at the time as we were in the street and said person/s were rushing off. It wasn't because I actually wanted chocolate per se.

No worries Fee, I read it as you intended. I did actually make a good choice as I was originally going to have the nachos as they looked like they wouldn't be wolfed down in two minutes, but seeing the amount next door to me had, i am glad i didn't. The Halloumi, being so rubbery, did serve the purpose of taking a long time to eat so I wasn't finished before everyone else. Any frustrations came from having a limited choice, and that being a Christmas meal I was supposed to enjoy it more! Realise it is early days in the eating out stakes, and that there are some foods I still have to experiment with before public consumption is risk free, so that limits the choice too.

Phew :)

Now in size 24 jeans and got to wear my purple Cotton Traders ones with the adjustable waist to the Christmas meal on Monday. They are tighter than Evans as I wore my new Evans 24 today. Hopefully both will last my until end of January at least!

Started home BP monitoring yesterday following my check up week before last, as it has been up and down since op and GP and I have been playing around with the meds. Seeing him on Friday evening so hopefully will have some stats to play with, although I need to do it for seven days.

Need to go through my knicker collection to see if I have enough that fit and don't fall down when I go away for 8 nights on Boxing Day as there is no washing machine where I am going :( Don't want to buy any more of the 22's I have that do fit and still have lots of 24/26 and 26/28's. 30's/32's went in the bin a while back. However, I don't think the 20's will fit me yet and I don't want to split them... Need to make a decision soon as have to do it online and they may not arrive in time :(

Tried M&S tinned stewed steak tonight after my yearly shop there last weekend with my vouchers thinking it might be better than Tesco's as it was £1 dearer and everyone raves about M&S food, but it didn't taste anywhere as nice. :( Glad I only bought one tin, although have a steak and kidney and a bolognaise sauce to try yet.

Lol at the knickers !
That was one of the first items of clothing I noticed that was getting big in me .. my ass was deff loose in my pants ..
I love tinned steak .. on the rare occasion I eat potato , I buy the Sainsbury's ready made bubble and squeak in a pot , use half and add half a tin of stewed steak on the top , then put in the oven for 30 mins until edges are crispy , now that is scrumptious ! Also nice with a tin of curry cooked the same way .. I've also cooked this with sweet potato mash instead of potatoes .. very filling ..
Xxx

Worth getting some cheap supermarket pants so they're comfortable whatever size?
I'm sorry the steak was a let down, proof more expensive isn't always better!

My supermarkets don't do clothes. The joy of living in the sticks :(

Have bitten the bullet and sent off an Evans order for 18/20's. Current ones that i have been in for about 6 weeks are 22/24 so must be due to drop soon. If they fit then that will be the best Christmas present ever :D The last time I was an 18 was when I got married in 1977  . Baby number 1 a year later and then it was all down hill...

And I guess it's not worth ordering them online if it's just pants. Ah well just a thought :) fingers crossed the ordered ones are suitable x

I have tried the M&S ones twice - pack of 4 for £5 but found they still slipped, even if supposedly the right size, so going to stick with Evans ribbed for now as they are so comfortable.
