what happens if you meet criteria bmi

hi all, just had a letter back from barnsley pct to say theyve declined funding this is twice theyve declined me, has i don't meet the barnsley pct criteria of 45 and im bmi of 43 but on the last two appointments my weight has gone up.

what i want to know is if my bmi is over 45 would i get funding ? could i get my dr to write outside of my district like derbyshire or leeds ? im really fed up with this as with out surjury im stuck as i need to lose weight to have my knees done.

its going to cost the nhs more in the long run to operate on both knees then send me for gastric sujury.
i will not let this go if theres a way to appeal again i will, but how many times do or can you do this.

i don't want to get any bigger in size as im risking my health to a heart attack
please advise ! .............

I was in a similar situation, except in my case I have a fractured spine which is repaired with lots of bolts and metal. My weight was creeping up and I asked my gp as it would have been a no way back and in a wheelchair for life. I was told categorically that in my pct's case I needed to put on 6 stone to even start the process. Despite all my health issues. There is no way round it, you can't be referred to a different area unless you move. Thank fully I was in a position to get a 0% interest credit card and paid privately. Good luck

Hi bigbeefybuilder
Most pct will seriously have to consider your application if you have a bmi of 45 or lower if you also have co morbidities such as diabetes/heart condition/or other serious health problem.
List all your health problems & how they effect your day to day life & then tell them how you feel the surgery will benefit you & improve your life/expectancy.
I wrote a letter & gave them a day in my life & how the weight limited me ( warts & all )
they wrote back saying my case will go before a panel & 3 weeks later i had the funding
no surgery date yet
good luck pal
