What to drink on nights out after bypass

I wonder if there is any there are any still lemonade recipe's that are for diabetics? using sweetener instead. That might work also the same with ice tea? not something to get that out and about but at least it might be something different to try at home. I have no problems with fizzy unfortunately so I have to fight my cravings for it but do allow my self some occasionally on nights out.

I drink loads of tea and nas squash. It's only out and about that's the issue.

At home its tea, coffee and water for me too Yve so have no probs keeping the intake up there. its the socialising drinks i'm having to get my head around

I've developed a taste for tomato juice with lots of ice (virgin Mary). At under 33 cals per bottle and with 1.5g of protein it feels like a healthy choice.

excuse my ignorance.. why no fizzy drinks? That one has escaped me in my research..

THANKS DOLLS, yeh I have no worries with the fluid intake at home its the out and about that rarely come around but just so happens I have one which will be 6 weeks post op. If all else fails I am going to opt for the contra band hahaha :D Might try some out at home don't fancy dumping when I have my glad rags on :D x

Too much gas fizz can cause a lot of discomfort in the pouch for some people probably not everyone but I am not desperate enough to try and find out :D x

I would say because we have a tiny pouch instead of a normal tummy, the gas in fizzy drinks causes bloating really quickly, and for me it hurts even though I'm 3 years post op bypass.
On saying that because of this hot weather I've sipped diet cola on the odd occasion and I find as long as I take my time it has been a little better.
But in general I don't miss fizzy drinks at all now it's too uncomfortable.

I thought it J2O is quite sugary, can you really have that? With water of course...

Yes, its fine for me. I am not participially sensitive to sugar so I dont worry too much.

But actually j2o's are a surprisingly good choice. In fact it has LESS sugar in than pure fruit juice. It has around 7g sugar per 100mls, as opposed to 9g sugar in orange juice or 10g in 100ml for apple juice. It also has less calories!

Yep same here. Plus the risk of it stretching your pouch.

After a while and your all settled with the band is it ok to drink any form of alcohol drinks just thought I would ask x

I'm not a binder and I don't drink :) but you should get guidance from your provider as to when alcohol is allowed - my provider recommends not in the first 12 months.

thanks both... funnily enough I realised I was a diet coke addict last year (12 plus cans per day) so weaned myself off onto chilled water, but now the hot weather is here I have been glugging it again.. so now I know time to wean myself off again and back to the water.

I find plain water very boring, but sugar free flavoured water is very nice. Like the sugar free Volvic ones.

I love diet coke, I think it will be the hardest thing to give up :(

I used to drink a lot of it now I'm only 2 weeks post op but I haven't missed it at all

I probably be the same, hopefully I will be way too busy concentrating on other things :p

I don't miss it - I have had a sip and it tasted very chemically, but I miss having something calorie free to drink when on a night out.
