funded by nhs or self funded???

mermaid2708

new year...new me!x
after reading several posts about fighting pct's for funding i was wondering what the ratio of nhs to self funding was???

i will start...i am self funding, with full gp support though. if i had gone the nhs funding route i was looking at a 3 - 7 year wait......and i couldnt face that.

NHS funded.

i was nhs funded for both my bands, i have full after care and i had a nhs t/tuck.
im very happy with the care given by the nhs.

Private ,

although i would of got nhs funding. the wait was not a good idea in my situation as i need to start losing weight quickly not wait a year or so for them to agree it.

But i have got funding in place for after care as the pct agree and my GP that they should do this for me which i thought was lovely:):). untill 8 weeks on im still waiting thanks to a useless team at my hospital ,finally getting a meeting on wether surgion will take my care tomorrow (Even though funding is in place the surgion has last say !!)

self funding - with a starting BMI of 43 was told there was slim to no chance of funding with my pct.

i would have been near the bottom of the waiting list with people constantly jumping ahead of me as apart from obviously being overweight i have no other medical problems...no high bp, no diabetes, heart ok etc...well done to all of you who have managed to get funding...im afraid i just could not wait...and its not as if i am rich...i am a single parent and will be repaying my loan for the next 7yrs...i was lucky to borrow half the money from a reletive intrest free, which is a god send. all my aftercare is included in the price i am paying...for life.

NHS funded. Had a 7 month wait from consultant apppointment to actual surgery but overall waited about 18 months from asking GP for refferal. Was well worth the wait & never battled with PCT.

Nhs funded after intial enquiry to GP at the end of July, i'm having surgery around April time:D

Nhs funded saw Gp in may for help with weight nether of us concidered surgery. saw endocrainologist in june who told me that the only thing for me was bypass had surgery in november.

nhs funded referal oct 07 op sept 08 would have been earlier but dr's went on hols! iv never heard of people waiting for so long as afew years tho

Hiya
I was self funded. I got a nhs referra, was under the consultant team for a year, they refused the op on the nhs because I wasnt fat enough and ill enough. I did not qualify with a bmi of 42.5 and weighing 18 stone 7 pounds, as I did not have any health problems. I paid for the operation myself as they had refused my operation on the nhs, but the nhs do some of my after care. I see a dietician every 3 months, I see a counsellor every month, the head cheese every 6 months for maintenance even though he did not do the operation, he is still keen to track my progress. ALSO, after paying for 3 band fills myself, my gp contacted by PCT and they have agreed to fund the rest of the band fills with the NHS, so I have the best of both worlds in a way.

MNL:)

got knocked back for NHS funding, so am going private, althought he lovely Mr Ammori has written a letter to PCT for one final jab at funding

Nhs funded.my bmi was 35 and from my first enquiry to my op in November was a total of 6 months.funding was never even mentioned to me x

Hi
I'm a self funder with Surgicare and Mr Ammori. Like someone else here has mentioned, it's not cos we are rich, it's just that I couldn't bear the wait and the stress of the NHS -the only help my GP offered was vouchers for Slimming World. We have used some of our hard earned savings to fund the op but I'd rather have that than a new car any day!
