Well what can I say....he is as charming as he is on "fat doctors" I had my consultation with him yesterday and he was brilliant! I had a private appointment as I was wanting to go private for wls and he said NO NO NO you are entitled to have it on the NHS he didnt want my money. I explained that I was fed up of waiting for my surgery to put me forward for surgery (it takes my surgery 6 months to write a letter) and he said dont worry I WILL sort this out for you I will tell your doc that im applying to your PCT.

He was fecking Brilliant! He explained absolutely everything to both my hubby and I and also to my sister who wanted hear what was being said.

I had another private consoltation with another surgeon and I didnt feel at all comfortable with him (more concerned about me having the 15k to pay) the co-ordinator was not at all worried that I was a wreck, crying my eyes out all she kept saying was is this something you can fund etc etc

Oh sorry with me being away this week I am catching up and thought you meant you were going this coming week.

That is amazing of him, wish he would say the same thing to me!!! Know he won't as we don't have funding here in N.Ireland but it is amazing to know he is not milking it.

Glad you felt so comfortable with him.

Can't wait to go now, nervous but happy about it.

How long were you in with him...oh and did you give the consultation fee to the receptionist or Mr Somers?
 
Well done and congratulations on having a positive outcome with Mr Somers...he really does sound like a genuine man...Good to know you're in good hands.

When I Phoned the clinic I gave my card details over the phone but the woman said that she would not take the money until I have had my consoltation.

Consoltation was £150.00 but if I failed to turn up then she would charge me £100.00.

Was with him for about 1hr he made me feel relaxed and didnt feel I needed to hurry up. (I had hubby and sis with me asking questions he was soooo cool about it all) you will be fine hun I promise

Blimy - that's something you don't hear about very often - the surgeon doing all the work re funding! Shaw Somers has got a very good reputation. The only downside I would warn you about is the wait for surgery on the NHS (as alot of us on here will vouch!). Be prepared for a VERY LONG WAIT!!!!

Thanks Julie I realise I may have to wait longer than I originally wanted too, but fingers crossed, hopefully not tooooo long! xxx
 
Had a copy of the letter Dr Shaw Somers has written to my PCT asking for funding for my op

Hopefully it wont be long now before they reply getting quite excited now

You are making the right decision going with shaw. I have just had a bypass done by Shaw. I was a private patient so only sat him 2 weeks before i had surgery. i had the surgery on Wednesday afternoon and was home saturday. The care i had was fantastic. I was looked after by Guy and Shaw so what a treat for me Ha ha xx
 
Hi there Josie like I mentioned in my earlier post I went to see shaw as a private patient and boy was I impressed!!
