Banding on NHS in the North West

How are you feeling today? Still positive I hope! keep smiling :)

Yes still feeling positive just tried phoning PCT but its engaged, I am not going to be scared of them anymore, I am going to keep asking when my referral will be looked at until they tell me they have seen it. It could already be in the pile for the commissioning board to get more info from my doc, could have been reviewed by the PCT or not yet landed in their office, but I will keep asking them. They were useless last time but maybe someone in there can help if I ask enough times!

How are things with you shelbell x

just keep bugging them hun, that way they will have to realise how much you want this, keep us all posted x

Hi Alliecat

Just spoken to a lady at the commissioning panel she said from experience in her opinion I will not get the funding as my BMI is not high enough despite it being 35.6 and rising. I asked if she had received my letter that I had sent and she said she had but not yet read it. She stated from the information in the GP's letter there was not enough to grant funding. There was nothing mentioned about my trouble breathing at night, although she did suggest I get referred for sleep aponea which if I have will help me get funding, she also stated they would advise me to have bariatric treatment for 2 years to see if that would work before they would agree funding. I broke down and told her how I felt and she stated that none of that was in the referral letter when it should have been.

I am gutted...

Oh I am so sorry hun............ go back to your gp and tell them all this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it isn't good for you!!!!!!!!!!!

Sending you big hugs.............

:argh:Hi Charliegirl,
I'm soo sorry that you are having such a bad time at the moment but as Mandy says you must go back to your GP and get them to explain that to the PCT,(the PCT will try and put every obstacle in the way but don't give in)I know it's easy for me to say and yes I nearly gave in but I just kept been a pain in he A**e. I know it's hard and very down heartening for you at the minute. Write as many letters as you want to them explaining how this affects you and your health,I know that you have already written letters but bombard the PCT with them.
Remember I'm here for you as is everyone else here, chin up girl and I'm sending you lots and lots of hugs and group hugs and kisses your way:hug99::hug99::hug99::hug99::hug99::hug99::hug99::gen126::gen126::gen126:
Take care
Katrina xxxx
PS get your MP involved TOO, write them a letter.

Stay positive hun. Go back to your GP and ask him/her to write again with all of the things that will help support your application, get tested for the sleep apnoea, write a letter yourself to the panel (more than one if need be!) telling them the reasons why you so want this but most importantly DONT GIVE UP!!!!!:)

ah thanks so much for all your support, I had to go to work and just home on my break - I contacted my friend who works for the NHS and she said to ignore the woman that she is paid to try and put people off and she only puts the information onto the computor she is not trained to give a result and as the panel have not yet seen it to keep on trying. I have resolved to carry on going and have got over the little hiccup and will proceed. I am going to cost out the expense of the drugs I am on for hypertension, cholestrol and reflux and times that by the rest of my life and submit a letter advising what they could potentially save against the cost of the op. Trust me I will not take this laying down....keep up all your support and I am here for ANYONE who wants any help, advice or just a hug ((hug))

thats great Charlie, you go get 'em! Is it worth going back to your doc and getting him to write and fax over another letter?

Fingers firmly crossed!

Hi charleigirl
:girlpower::girlpower:you go for it girl!!!!
Show them you mean business and that you will not go away.
I'm sending loads of postive thoughts to you.
Take care
Katrina xx

Going to make another appointment and see my GP and get him to send more info now.....will keep you posted.... thanks for all your good and positive wishes... Linda

Another step on my journey, I have this morning spoken to the secretary at my doctors surgery. I have advised her what the lady at the PCT has told me i.e I wont qualify in her opinion and asked about the bariatric clinic at hope which this lady said I should be going to first. Fran the secretary said they normally receive a response back saying yes or no from the panel first and usually very quickly. She is going to speak to the doctor today when he comes in and make some enquires at hope etc and call me back. When I told Fran about the woman's opinions she was quite concerned as to her job title! It may not get me anywhere but it pays not to take the first answer you get.....keep smiling folks on this lovely wet monday xx

good on you Linda, it's great to hear you still sounding so positive and proactive! Keep on them and you'll get there in the end.

Hi Charliegirl,
I'm sooo glad that you haven't given up. You are so like me, don't give them a moments peace, I am really, really pestered and rang the PCT at least 4/5 times a day for a week and spoke to the same girl all the time, she was lovely and even went beyond her normal job and even started chasing my letters up from the PS which I don't think is her job role but she knew how much it meant to me esp as I was sobbing uncontrollably at the first refusal, so she did alot of running around for me. I really hope that you ge sorted very soon, remember depending on which area you live in, you can get referred then onto surgery within 18wks which I have managed in just 16weeks.
I'm so hoping for you girl, all my fingers are crossed, If you need any help then please email me [email protected]
I don't know much about gastric surgery as I'm having a FTT but I know the PCT procedure quite well and maybe I can help????
Take care misses
sending you big hugs

Hi shelbell got a docs appointment in the morning to discuss what happens next, ie wait for them to say yes or no or get referred to Hope bariatrics clinic for 6 months. I get a choice but need to run it by the GP, I might see if he will send a supplement letter to the PCT first as I dont go out doors on my days off at all I sit in my PJ's, not depressed just fed up nothing fits so I feel comfortable enough....will kepp you posted...Linda x

Hi Treenaweena, just on my break from work, I will email you tomorrow after I have spoken to the GP again to see what he suggests, its very exciting having a battle to fight! Thanks for your support, I do tend to go guns blazing for something I believe in they all say in work they would want me on their side if trouble broke out.... Linda x

Visited my GP this morning and we spoke about what the lady from the PCT said he was not happy and asked me for her name. He said I did meet the criteria as he checked before he did the referral. He has also received a letter back from the PCT stating that it will go before the panel in august when they next sit. That woman said she did not know when it would go before them as it depended on what else came in! He has referred me to the bariatric clinic at hope hospital which is fairly new, whilst waiting for a result from the PCT. He said they will run the blood tests and I will get to speak to specialists etc and see what they say. I broke down and told him how I never want to go out due to how I look etc and he was totally understanding. He said that the lady at the PCT was not qualified to give the advice she gave. So I am going to ignore her and follow my GP. Both my GP and his secretary listen to me and as it was my suggestion for Hope hospital and they did not know anything about the clinic there they have learnt something back from me for in the future....I asked him if he thought I was still in the running for banding if attending Hope and he said yes. I have to put my trust in him and will do so.....

thats great news Linda! Atleast you know when you're going before the panel now, and its fantastic that you're being proactive by getting the Hope referral in the meantime :)

Thanks shelbell I am so glad I found this forum and the fantastic people on it its been so helpful and people so supportive....xx

the way I see it Linda is that yes this forum is great and there are some tremendously positive supportive people here but at the end of the day it comes down to the individual and whether they have the chutzpah for the fight or they are going to roll over and play dead at the first obstacle. You have chutzpah by the bucketload which is why you're going to succeed and make this happen.
