Rake Lane/North Tyneside Update

Fab news Suzie. I was told Jan/Feb time for op as we need appt with dietician then with consultant.
I wasn't given a weight loss target either as they were happy with my loss too.
I was thinking about the Freeman as well as I live & work local if I can get away from work early.
xx

Jan/feb will be hear in no time, starting to buy for Christmas already (scary thought). I have got to give blood again so need to make app with nurse just to get bloods rechecked. Ye I'm definitely interested in the freeman will def be going not this time but next. It will be good to speak to people who have gone through or on this journey.

Hi Louise. I got my seminar appointment in Jan 11 in the middle of my lighten up program which finished in Feb. It was March for my Specialist nurse appointment but I kept on ringing the appointment system when I thought that it was time and got one that way even though they had not had the letter from Lighten Up. I then got to see Mr Seymour at Rake Lane in June after phoning his secretary to see about getting an appointment set up and she sorted that for me. Mr Seymour then set up surgery for me on 20July and all the other appointments that go with it.
Just keep on everyones toes about getting an appointment and keep your name at the front of their minds...worked for me. Good Luck x

Wow Michelle so I'm I right in thinking it was only 6 months from seminar to operation for you that is very quick. What operation did you have and would you mind telling u's about what happened on your op day x x x

App to see mr woodcock came through for 13 Oct only 2 months can't believe it how the time has flown from referral to now hopefully I will be given an op date (fingers crossed) and this will be the last summer holiday spent sweating and feeling horrible x x x

ive seen nurse early aug and had bloods done last week...still need to see dietician but as ive already lost 10kg the nurse said it wasnt as urgent as some who need the help to lose a bit more so could be expecting dietician app then a surgeon app close together! still within the 2-3mnth average time span though!

Sorry guys just got to reading your reply. I had gastric bypass on 20th July. Had to go to rake lane the night b4 surgery to get blood thinning injections and be weighted. The on the day of the op had to be there at 730am. They went through the admittance forms, did a pregnancy test then gave me a gown and some lovely socks to wear. You don't need to worry about your bottom showing cause they really are very roomy and have 2 ties so you cannot see owt.
Then I had to walk down to the theatre with the nurse and then the team takes over with canulars etc and then sleepy time...
It was great I woke up in the afternoon all done and dusted. Then when you feel ready you can drink water and they tell you once you start to keep on sipping away. If you don't your blood pressure can drop and thats a problem. I had flavoured water with me...much nicer than nhs tap water lol. I was in over night and they kept coming to take obs every couple of hours of so. Also being attached to the drip meant that I was always needing the blooy loo and then having to get unattached to go. You also have to pee in a cardboard bucket thing as they have to measure your output. I was able to have some yoghurt later in the afternoon on the 2nd day and as everything was ok and I was up and about they discharged me around 5 that evening. It would have been earlier but they had to give me a blood thinning injection again and it needs to be around the same time each day for 2 weeks, (when you are discharged you do it yourself).
Hope this helps but anything else I can help with don't hesitate to ask xx

Hello ladies. Sorry I haven't been on in a while. Crazy new job!
FAB NEWS SUZIE!!
I've got my dietician appointment 23rd September so it's still moving along slowly. To be honest I don't mind about the wait any more. The weight is slowly coming off & it's helping me adjust and get my head around things before the op which I suppose is the purpose of the drawn out process. My time will come lol.
Well done Michelle & thanks so much for sharing.
Take care ladies!
xx

Good to hear from u's. I've been having a rubbish few months just eating everything in site. Blaming it on the school hols and quitting smoking, haven't touched one since middle of July. But have only managed to put on about 4lb. Started again yesterday and doing good so far. Ye the waiting not so bad anymore just plodding along and keeping myself busy buying for Christmas lol. Is anyone going to the freeman support group next time? Might pop up this month just wondering what happens at meeting. Glad everyones good and hope to hear from u's soon :) x x x

Suzie. I work at the ministry which is behind the Freeman & I'm working 1 til 9 at the minute. I might be able to wangle an early finish and pop over if you're all going? It'd be nice to meet up as we're all clearly going to be going through this at the same time.
Let me know hun.
I can pm you my number if it's easier??
Take care & remember that packing in the smoking is doing you are far far bigger favour then losing a couple of pounds will! Well done you.
xx

Wencho. Forgot to mention..
I spoke with Mr Woodcock's secretary a few weeks ago to chase up dietician appt which took 2 months! Anyway she said she can't arrange a consultant appt until she received a report from the dietician so I'm guessing we'll have another wait there if the Lighten Up report is anything to go by. If I hear anything else I'll update this post.
Good luck!
xx

think il give them a ring on Monday and see what's happening with my app. still had bit trouble with smoking so made app with my smoking consultant to restart the champix...they did help me stop for over 5 months last time so assume same will happen and get me past op stage with any luck. whens the next freeman meet? see if I can make it. xx

another thing....how much have yous lost or been told to still lose? its my biggest panic if I don't lose what I'm expected and get a big fat no from Mr woodcock! x

I wasn't given a weight loss goal.
Just told I'd done well & to continue..
Saying that they've all mentioned I'm one of the smallest people they've had to operate on (massive medical problems though) so they're not overly concerned with me having to lose for op.
You could always give them a ring to check or ask the dietician at your appt.
xx

hi, i rang sue the nurse today and she said she would email the lady that dishes the apps out and chase mine up, they have been happy with my weight loss but had said the more i lose the better, ive still lost since i seen her last week so thats always guna go dwn well lol, you get weighed again at dietician app again she said and that weight will go 4ward 2 dr woodcock which will help in his decision if surgery is offered to you! i wish it would all hurry up and just be given the go ahead! thats the worst part of this i think, the not knowing if its guna happen yet! so stressful yet people think its the easy way out!!!!!!! if only they knew lol, thats y ive chosen to only tell a few people so i dont get that til afterwards then they can say wat the hell they want cos al shove me skinny arse in tha faces muahahaha x

Wencho,
I'm kinda taking it as read that if we've made it through the process this far we're in.
Mr Woodcock said at the seminar that as long as we do as we're told (which we all have) then he will operate.
The dietician appointment I believe is to gather the information for Mr Woodcock to decide which operation suits us most and to make sure we've made the changes he asked.
I wouldn't worry.
The dietician appointment took ages to come through. I was gutted as at my nurse specialist appointment the dietician had a cancellation which I was offered as I was already there so I could have stuck around and gone on the same day but it was my partners birthday! Never mind. Everything happens for a reason and I'm getting used to this waiting lark.
Let me know what's happening RE Freeman Group and might see you there!
xx
