I thought we would be weighed at the group meeting in front of everyone! That's a massive relief that we won't be! I've been worrying about that quite a bit haha
Any tips for what the group dietition session will be like? And the turn around time after for the 1:1 session? :) Hope you're all doing well by the way!
I'm sure she said 1-2 weeks after the group meeting I wrote it down I know the nurse that weighed me said you 'll never be weighed in public thank god Julia56 any idea how big this group session will be ? There was only 3 people at our seminar I was shocked

There can be up to about 20 including partners but the last one I went to ended up at something like 5 patients and started late because of several no-shows. Why do people book things and then not turn up or even let them know they're not coming? There might be the odd genuine reason but I think it is selfish if you take up a place wanted by someone else. Must be disheartening for the staff as well who are doing their best.

Clare (the bariatric specialist nurse) came to see me in the surgical admissions lounge this morning. I thought it was lovely of her to take the trouble to come and find me to say hello.

When I attended the group session, I'd say there was around 10 of us. It was really informal, just Beryl and another dietician going through expectations after surgery and explaining briefly the difffent types of surgery and what you can expect from both. They also tell you about success stories and had before/after pictures laid out for you to look at. I didn't get weighed at this appointment, I had my 1:1 appointment with Beryl not long after. X

Yes I phoned Claire and she said if no appointments have been mailed out to you then you don't need any more with the surgeon, the only ones I need to make are with the dietitian :)

I have a support group available more locally so I'll be going to that. My weight is fluctuating so much at the minute, one day i'll be 4 pounds down, then i'll be 4 pounds on, then it will come off again, I don't get it! I really hope Beryl isn't expecting miracles at the 1-1 session, I haven't snacked once or drank anything fizzy, yet it's not coming off as easily as they said it would. :(

Well I don't think anything was said in that meeting that wasn't covered in the seminar felt sorry for those like you olivia that come from miles away ..... bit miffed at a 7/8/9 week wait now for the 1:1 they said at seminar id would be a week or 2 .... oh well it can't be rushed it will make the 6 months go by quicker I guess .... seems that the appointment I've got with Mr sedman in 2 weeks will be pointless this early on too

I'm sorry you didn't find it worthwhile! I thought it was quite interesting actually, the general stuff I knew but there was a couple of useful tips in there for me :) Yeah exactly! I'm dreading this six month wait, especially as that is a minimum. I went to my local support group this week, wasn't a great experience, I felt like a lot of the people there were unhappy :( Just not a place for me, have you been to yours yet? Let us know how your surgeon visit goes! :D

I think I said earlier that the support group wasn't for me. I think the team want you to try it so that you know the options. I'm sure it is valuable to some people.

I saw Clare whilst I was in on September 5th and she said that they were getting some people through now with lower BMIs because they were doing tier three groups that were mostly dietician led. She said that this is where the 5% weight loss was relevant and they have to be on tier three for a minimum of a year but that is for people with a BMI under 50 to start with.

Ah that's interesting, why did you not enjoy the group? Yeah its brilliant that its available for people, I got the feeling people felt a real group pride and that's lovely to have. Ah right, I asked Beryl if it's the same weight loss required for women with PCOS as it is for everyone and she said yes :( I think I'm gonna have to join a gym, barely any weight is coming off. How are you getting on with things Julia? :)

Oh, I'm just not a group person. I was sat with a couple and he was saying how I should just get on with it and it was the best thing his wife had ever done. TBH he looked like a prime candidate for WLS as well. Nobody else spoke to me and I felt awkward being on my own. Nobody explained the agenda for the evening. There was someone who gave a talk about her "journey". Well done for her but when people talk about an incredible "journey" it makes me think of X-factor.

I'm doing great with the weight loss but I still have medical issues that I could do without. Thanks for asking.

Hahaha I totally get the x-factor aspect of things, I'm not a group person either, I'd rather discuss it privately with close family and friends than strangers to be completely honest. But I'm glad I tried it :) Glad your weight loss is on the right path, sorry to hear about the medical stuff though! Is it being sorted?
