Hi, im Jo & was banded 5th Sept 2013

Thanks Banderbird! Hope everythings going well for you too & you're enjoying having real food again :)

Sarah, good luck for those couple of pounds lovely! I remember you saying you havent much restriction yet so 4 Stones by sheer willpower is amazing xx

Went into town this morning and got some protein powder from Barret & Holland because im just not getting enough at the moment. Got this choc flavour one under advisement from the sales lady, just tried it and BLECH!

Please can somebody advise me one thats high in protein, low in cals/carbs and doesnt taste flippin awful? Thanks if you can x

Hope everyone else is doing well? I had a small incident last night that involved a tub of hummous & some ryvita thins, consoling myself with the fact it was low fat/ low cal and i only ate half a tub. my god it was yummy but will take it out of todays cal allowance. First time ive slipped in 7 weeks,so not gonna beat myself up.

So much for a band being the easy option hey!!

My dietician goes mad with me for counting calories, because "this isn't a diet". I continue to do it, but if I want something I tend to eat it and count it. Last night I ate some orangettes because I really wanted them. I ate slowly and chewed a lot, and the small bag was plenty. I wouldn't stress too much over ryvita and hummus if that's what you wanted!

I've got the Holland and Barrett protein in banana and strawberry flavours. I've never tried other protein powders so I can't compare the taste! You can pick up some single sachets of powder on ebay, might be worth trying them to find one you like, then it won't work out too expensive if you don't like them.

No restriction yet for me, maybe after my third fill in November. Maybe... I'm doing ok for now, 4 stone in 3.5 months. I am pleased but I know I'm a good dieter, I've always been able to drop weight quickly. I never sustain it though, I'm hoping the band will kick in before the novelty of dieting dies off lol!

Oh yeah, the band is SUCH an easy option lol!

You guys are being so good, I'm a terrible dieter!!

I don't think a bit of humous and some Ryvita thins is anything to beat yourself up over, it was hardly a selection off the Dominos menu :D

I refuse to count calories, this is why I had the band, I just want to eat less for good.

I do hope at some point I'll have sufficient restriction where I won't have to think so much about what I'm eating, as I'll be eating smaller portions. As it is, I put a lot of thought into my food choices but I'm not too restrictive - if I really want something I'll work it in. If I didn't monitor myself at the moment I'd just be piling on even more weight!
Oh for those heady days of restriction lol:D

You are so good Sarah.

I know I will be relying on the band a lot, but TBH that's what I paid for..

I know they say not to count the calories, but there is plenty of banders for whom that has been very successful in helping us drop the pounds quicker in the early days and to keep us focussed ... I say, if it works, why not?! You are doing great Sarah, and if you can enjoy what you want while including it in your overall plan and not feel guilt, good on you ... Carry on losing x

Yes, my dietician said the same but much like you Im ok at losing weight initially just find it difficult to keep it going and off, so i'm also looking to the band & restriction to help me through that inevitable phase.

The orangettes sounded gooood lol & thanks for the tips re the shakes & getting some samples, youngest son has also tried the one i got & he is used to protein drinks and even he Boaked lol In the bin it goes!

Hope you are having a good weekend & good luck for those coupla lbs xx

I'm a terrible dieter too! lol Yes, you're right of course, im just terrible at this because I know when I start nibbling or lose focus then it tends to be game over for me & before i know it i'm scoffing everything in sight again :sigh:

Back on track now but I do get what you both say and am going to allow myself some treats and thoroughly enjoy them. This is all part of learning much better eating habits for me and part and parcel of that is not beating myself up anymore. Had a lovely indian takeaway tonight & had a small bit of everything, on top of some ryvitas, sliced roast beef & salad for lunch I think ive eaten well but sensibly today, hurrah!

There isnt any one size fits all I guess? we are all just trying to find the way out of our eating habits the best we can & if it works for you, fair play. One way or another we will get there ladies! :)

In other news ,its been a busy 24 hrs. Youngest lad [20] is at his first ever party tonight & took his first ever unaccompanied train journey/s to get there. You may remember he is autistic and so never really got invited to stuff by schoolfriends, big step for him, so proud! saw him onto the train and been driving him mad texting every hour! News so far is he got there fine and is revelling in girlie attention! :D He;s staying the night at a friends so this is why I'm awake @ 2.40am & wombling on like an idiot lol sorry!

Also spent the last week helping said lad choose his first puppy! and we are off to see a litter of Malamutes [Alaskan husky] tomorrow. Dont know who is more excited, me or him! lol

Right, must try to sleep...Hope everyone else is well & thanks for all your helpful comments. I really couldnt do this without your help and support xx

Just read that back and apologise for the amount of !!! I think i may have had too much coffee :D

Bed [!] xx

One of my mates has a malamute - they're gorgeous dogs! Hers is really placid and quiet, but every time X factor is on it howls non-stop. Smart dog:)

Hope the party went well, must be nervy for you as it was the first one.

I went for an Indian last week with my dad and stepmum. By the time I'd had my popadom and a few bites of my starter I wasn't bothered about the main. Had a few bites of chicken, then I was done. So different to pre-band where I'd have cleared the table!

It's really hard to break out of that "on a diet" mindset with no guilt, isn't it? Still, we'll get there eventually!:) x

No Franky, that's marmite. Quick way to tell them apart - one is a yeast based spread, the other is a dog.

You're welcome!:D

lol @ marmite :D Franky, you wag!

Hope your night out for dinner went well Sarah xx The party went very well thanks & he returned home totally tired but with the biggest smile on his face  I hope its the beginning of a proper social life for him as he's a good kid whose worked hard to get where he is today.

We went & picked up the Malamute, he's gorgeous! All grey, fluffy and big ears but already bounding all over the house and ripping up papers lol Heres hoping he turns out Placid & quiet like your mates! Booking him in at the vets tomorrow for his jabs and puppy classes. Will post pics up when i figure out how to lol

I really enjoyed my takeaway yesterday, and ive been thinking about what Flutterby [i think?] said in another thread re mixing it up with the cal count so the body doesnt get too used to one thing. I already know I lose better at about 12-1300 cals a day so instead of going for a daily allowance im going to balance it out over a week and see how that goes.

Have got quite a few nights out between now and Christmas so it will make it easier to eat what I like and stay focused. I have my next fill booked for Nov 4th,so be interesting to see how much more they put in and how much it increases restriction.

Your next fill must be quite soon Sarah, is it #3 or 4? Silly question probably but do they always take all the fill out or was that just the first time?

Im hoping for good restriction before we get to Xmas or I will be in big trouble! lol

I don't know what the norm is, but they didn't check what was in on my last fill.

I'm due to have fill #3 in just over a fortnight. I'm only at 6.5ml in a 14ml band, so I'd guess it will be a ml or 2.

I've had a few meals out this week. I've made the best choices from what was available, and I've really enjoyed what I've had. Tomorrow is my weekly curry with my mate, should be good! I've not had a take-away yet, but I only had them once in a blue moon anyway.

Hope the puppy doesn't create too much havoc!:) x

Thanks WLD! & thanks for the tip about the Cookies & cream flavour, I will try and get some sachets in town tomorrow. Pleased to see on your thread that you are feeling better too lovely :)

Thanks! it has been total chaos! Puppy is called Ariphel, [Ari for short] sons choice, some character from a game he used to play I think?

He is already 4 months old & has been well socialised & taught good "dog" behaviour by staying with his mum & siblings for so long, but no toilet training and little understanding of any commands. Its been a wee & poop fest here  but we have just had a whole day with no accidents! Took him to the vets today & he has had his first check & vaxs and all is well apart from an underbite which might need an op, time will tell the vet said.

I'm keeping fingers crossed the toilet training continues going well...

He is the soppiest, cuddliest pup ever :) cats are still hiding upstairs but im sure they will come round given time.

Its quite taken my mind off the band & being hungry which is just as well because my friend hunger has come back again, flippin head-hunger, just go away already...

I'm a 14ml band too & I think I have 6 ml in so far? its hard to remember lol Im glad to hear its not the norm to completely unfill, must just be a first time fill thing?

Good luck for your upcoming fill & well done on the recent 5.5lbs weightloss, wtg lady! :D

I really miss having a dog! My dad finds it hard to keep up with his two as his health deteriorates, so I tend to borrow them for walks. They're the laziest dogs in the world, and if a greyhound is done walking there is no way you can drag it along, so they're not the longest walks I've ever taken...

I know what you mean about head hunger. I had a day last week where I wasn't busy in work, and I found myself snacking at 10am because I felt hungry. No way was I actually hungry, I know it was all in my head! We'll get there, I'm sure, and in the meantime... Distraction is wonderful:)

Aaw, greyhounds are lovely! have the most soulful eyes, but i can imagine theres not much shifting one if it doesnt want to be shifted :)

I'm looking forward to getting fit walking him, 2 or 3 miles a day the vet said  but  Son & partner have promised we will all take it it turns! [yeh, right lol]

Yes, distraction is a marvellous, marvellous thing. Hoping I get another ml or so in Nov to keep me on track. Still enjoying ryvitas and various toppings, they really keep me going for a while. Also getting better at eating meals with the family, just smaller portions [on a special side plate, thanks Val!] its lovely to get back to a more normal way of being :)

Noticed today, my engagement ring is looser and my watch, havent weighed myself in a week so nice to see the weight coming off in other ways.

Ooooh you must post pics, Malamutes are beautiful. He must be heart-meltingly cute.

I also meant to say great news about your son and his party, bet he was well chuffed.

Really glad things are going well - and the weight is coming off.
